Opening · Chapter 1
On my wedding night, I pushed open the door, only to find eight men standing inside. It was my husband, Sean, and his groomsmen.
Emily, my sister, smiled wickedly. "Chloe, to prove you really love Sean, let's play a game." "Blindfold yourself and guess which one is your groom." "No matter who you choose, you have to kiss him." I agreed, smiling.
Sean and I had been dating for three years. I knew his scent and his body like the back of my hand.
When my hand brushed against the fourth man, I felt the cold metal of our wedding ring.
I smiled and called out, "Sean!" But the man suddenly wrapped his arms around me, pulling me tight against his chest. "Chloe, how could you mistake your own husband?
I just borrowed Sean's ring for a second." My smile faded instantly, and my face went cold. "Sean, how could you let another man wear our wedding ring?" The next second, Sean grabbed my hand as I tried to pull off the blindfold.
He coaxed me in a soft, gentle voice, "Chloe, it's just a game.
Don't be a party pooper." Emily chimed in from the side, cheering. "According to the rules, whoever you touch is the one you have to kiss!" Before I could even protest, the stranger leaned in to kiss me.
I shoved him away with all my might. "I'm not playing this game, and this wedding is off!" Sean's best friend, Jared, gripped my shoulders tightly.
His breath, heavy with the stench of alcohol, came closer and closer to my face. I couldn't believe Sean was just standing there, doing absolutely nothing to stop him. "Get off me!
Let me go!" I screamed. Emily laughed from the sidelines. "Oh, come on, Chloe.
Why are you making such a scene?" "You're ruining the whole kissing game!" I gritted my teeth, grabbed the edge of the blindfold, and ripped it off. "Ah!" A sharp, agonizing pain flared across my face.
It felt like my skin was being violently torn off. But the blindfold was still stuck fast to my eyes. Panic surged through me. "Sean! Help me take this off!
There's glue on it!" The room fell dead silent.
Only Emily's giggles broke the quiet. "Chloe, you'd really tell such a pathetic lie just to cheat at a game?" "If you're too scared to play, just admit it.
It just proves you don't actually know Sean!" The stranger's wet tongue suddenly trailed across my cheek. I shrieked, my voice trembling with terror. "Mom! Dad! Sean!
Help me!" No one answered. It was just like the day we went wedding dress shopping. Emily thought it would be funny to play hideandseek.
She dragged Sean, Mom, and Dad away to hide from me. When I came out of the fitting room, I couldn't find them anywhere.
I ran home in a panic, only to get a Snapchat message saying they were still waiting for me at the boutique. Rip! My sleeve was torn open.
Jared grunted in frustration and grabbed the back of my neck. I struggled to back away, screaming hysterically. "Sean!
Get out here right now!" The next second, I was violently shoved to the floor. "Chloe, you're the one who walked into my arms.
What's wrong with a little kiss?" Jared sneered. "Sean said if you couldn't recognize him, he'd let me stand in as the groom for the night!" He lunged, pinning me down.
I thrashed against him, screaming at the top of my lungs. "Get off me! Don't touch me!" "Sean! The wedding is off!
I'm calling it off!" Suddenly, a heavy fist slammed into flesh, followed by Jared's sharp cry of pain. "Did I not tell you to know your limits?" Sean's voice finally rang out as he draped his warm jacket over my shivering shoulders. "I'm sorry, Sean!
I messed up!" Jared whimpered. "Chloe, I'm sorry, I'm so sorry!" Sean ignored his pleas and took my hand. "Chloe, how do you want to handle this guy?" Before I could speak, Emily's voice cut in. "Sean, it was just a joke!" "Jared is your best friend.
I didn't think Chloe would be such a drama queen over a silly game." "If she can't handle a joke, let's just forget it." Sean didn't defend me.
I gripped Sean's hand, my fingers shaking violently. "The blindfold... it won't come off..." Sean poured a cup of warm water and handed it to me.
But just as my fingers brushed the glass, Emily let out a soft cough. The cup was instantly pulled away from my hand, shifting directions. "Emily, drink some warm water.
Don't catch a cold," Sean said softly. My fingertips froze in midair. Only then did Sean turn back to address my panic. "Emily put the blindfold on you.
There shouldn't be any issues. Are you sure you're not just overreacting?" He reached out to help me take it off, but Emily whined, clutching his arm. "Sean, wait!
The rule is she can't take it off until the ceremony is over. It's the game's rule. Don't spoil her, okay?" Sean's hand stopped.
Feeling his hand retreating, I grabbed his wrist in a panic. "Sean, I'm not lying!" "My face hurts so bad... please, just take it off..." Sean hesitated for a fraction of a second, then gently but firmly pushed my hand away. "Be good, Chloe.
Just listen to Emily." "She spent a long time planning this game for us." My heart went completely cold.
When Sean tried to lead me to the altar, I pulled my hand away and stumbled back a few steps. Sean grabbed my arm, his voice tight. "The ceremony is starting, Chloe.
What are you doing?" I let out a bitter, selfdeprecating laugh. "Sean, I can't even find my own groom.
Do you really think there's any point in going through with this wedding?" He froze, tightening his grip on my hand. "Chloe, you're the one who couldn't even recognize me, and I'm not even mad." "I've already kicked those guys out." "Just go rest for a bit, and we'll restart the ceremony in a few minutes, okay?" His voice held a hint of compromise.
I let out a soft laugh and pulled my hand free. "No."
Opening · Chapter 2
I turned around, feeling my way along the wall to find the exit of the hall. I heard Sean's footsteps following me.
But then, Emily's voice rang out. "Sean, the gifts Chloe got you are so basic." "I didn't expect her to have such tacky taste!" Sean's footsteps stopped. "Well, her eyesight has always been bad.
Otherwise, she wouldn't have mistaken me for someone else," he said with a selfdeprecating chuckle. "Whatever, just give them to me." "Aw, I really envy Chloe.
No matter what she does, you never get mad at her, Sean." The next second, a sharp shattering sound echoed through the hallway. Emily gasped dramatically. "Oh my gosh!
I—I didn't mean to!" "I was just tossing it in the air for fun and dropped it. I'll pick up the pieces!
Oh no, it's completely ruined..." She rambled on, her voice filled with panic. But instead of scolding her, Sean immediately comforted her. "Don't touch it.
You'll cut yourself." "Besides, I don't really care for things other people have handled anyway." "When I have time, I'll just take Chloe to buy a new one." My steps faltered.
I reached down and touched the ring on my left ring finger.
Sean had put on hold all his business projects and spent three months learning from a master jeweler just to handcraft that ring for me.
He had engraved our initials inside the band.
At the time, he had hugged me and said, “Chloe, it might not be as perfect as a designer ring, but it holds all my love for you.” I had believed him.
I just didn't expect that love to rot so quickly. I slipped the ring off my finger and tossed it carelessly into the air.
It hit the tiled floor with a soft click and rolled away into the shadows.
From the end of the hallway, the hushed whispers of the guests drifted over. "Hey, who's actually the groom today?" "The welcome board says Sean Harrison, right?" "Yeah, but did you see the slideshow?
The photos of the bride are all with some other guy!" "Wait, did no one notice? The bride walked in blindfolded, but what about her family?
Are they blind too?" "Her parents and sister were the ones who set up the venue. If you ask me, this bride must be adopted.
They clearly don't care about her." I trembled, sinking onto the floor in a dark corner. Tears soaked through the blindfold, making the raw, torn skin on my face burn like fire.
I bit my lip to keep from crying out, trying to unlock my phone to call an Uber to the hospital. Suddenly, Sean's voice sounded right above me. "Chloe, the floor is freezing.
Get up." He pulled me up and guided me in a direction I couldn't discern. "Let's just finish the ceremony, okay?" "Yeah, Chloe! I spent so much time planning this game.
Please don't let my hard work go to waste," Emily said, grabbing my other arm and shaking it. My parents' voices joined in immediately. "It's your wedding day.
Stop being so childish and throwing a tantrum!" Emily was the one who had ruined my wedding. Yet, they were all accusing me of throwing a tantrum.
My parents had always favored Emily. And now, Sean—the man who once swore to always put me first—was siding with her too.
I pushed their hands away, my voice shaking. "Sean, do you also think I'm just throwing a tantrum?" He didn't answer. Instead, Emily let out a sudden gasp. "Oh no! I almost forgot!
I'm livestreaming the wedding on Snapchat for Grandma!" "She just got out of the ICU! She can't handle any stress right now!"
Opening · Chapter 3
I froze. Panic seized me, and I tried to run toward the exit to go to the hospital. But Sean grabbed my wrist. Since I couldn't see, I struggled wildly. Snap.
A sharp, sickening pain shot up from my ankle.
Sean let go of my hand in a panic. "Chloe, I..." I gritted my teeth against the agonizing pain. "Get away from me!" "Sean, do you have any idea what legs mean to a ballet dancer?" His voice filled with panic. "I didn't mean to hurt you!
I just wanted to stop you because the wedding isn't over yet." Two years ago, I had slipped and sprained my ankle.
Sean had stood outside the house of a retired, elite sports physical therapist for three whole months, begging him to treat me, just to ensure my ballet career wouldn't be ruined.
After that, he even learned physical therapy massage techniques just so he could massage my leg every single night. "Oh, come on, Chloe. The doctors are there.
Grandma will be fine," Emily said, her briefly panicked voice returning to its usual playful tone. "She loves you the most and wanted nothing more than to see you and Sean get married.
You can't let her down." Sean quickly chimed in, his voice soft and persuasive. "Emily is right." "Going to the hospital now won't help.
Let's finish the wedding first, and then we'll go see Grandma together. She'll be so happy." I didn't reply.
Sean tentatively wrapped his arm around my shoulder, trying to guide me back to the chapel.
I wrenched my shoulder away, knocking his hand off, and let out a mocking laugh. "Sean, the wedding photos at the altar have been replaced with pictures of me and another man.
Do you really think I'm going to finish this wedding with you?" Sean's voice shook violently. "You... you knew? Who told you?" He let out a heavy sigh. "This is my fault.
I can explain." But before he could, Emily quickly interrupted him. "Sean, don't take the blame for me." "I was the one who picked up the photos from the studio and didn't check them properly." "I'm sorry, Chloe." Her voice cracked, turning into a soft, pathetic whimper.
Hearing her cry, Sean's heart immediately softened, and he stepped in to defend her. "Chloe, Emily is your sister.
There's no need to be so harsh on her." His tone was incredibly casual, as if this were just some minor, trivial mistake.
But on the day we took our wedding photos, Sean had saved every single picture to his phone.
He used to look at them every single morning when he woke up. "You can't blame Emily for this. The photo studio must have made a mistake," my parents chimed in, eager to excuse her.
It was just like when we were kids. If I broke a plate, my parents would make me stand outside in the cold as punishment.
But if Emily broke a plate, they would blame the store for selling cheap, defective dinnerware. I lifted my head, staring into the pitchblack darkness.
I turned in the direction of their voices and spoke with absolute clarity. "Sean, Mom, Dad.
I am saying this for the very last time." "Take this blindfold off my face, and replace all those photos with the real ones." Perhaps, if they did, there was still a shred of hope left for us.
Silence met my words.
After a few agonizig seconds, my parents finally spoke up, their voices hesitant. "Chloe, your sister worked really hard to plan this game for you..." "Yeah, don't let her kind intentions go to waste." Sean's deep voice followed. "Chloe, it's too late to change the photos now." "As for the blindfold, it doesn't affect anything anyway.
I'll hold your hand and lead you the whole way." My heart shattered into dust.
Opening · Chapter 4
Emily practically dragged me toward the chapel. I stumbled, nearly crashing to the floor several times.
My parents and Sean walked right beside us, acting as if they didn't see a thing.
When we turned a corner, my arm slammed hard against the sharp edge of the wall, sending a wave of numbing pain through my arm. I gasped.
The next second, Emily let out a sudden, terrified scream. Grandma's weak, pained groans suddenly drifted from Emily's phone. "Oh my god! Grandma is having a heart attack!" "What?!
Doctor! Call a doctor, quickly!" my parents screamed in a panic. My heart squeezed with terror, and I lunged forward blindly. "What's wrong with Grandma?" "Emily! Tell me!
What happened to Grandma?!" I screamed.
The pained groans on the phone suddenly stopped. "Chloe, why are you screaming at me?" Emily whined, pulling her hand back as if I had terrified her.
I slapped her hand away and roared, "Emily, put Grandma on the phone right now! I need to know she's okay!" Emily burst into tears. The atmosphere instantly turned incredibly tense.
My parents rushed to comfort Emily. "She's fine, she's fine.
The doctors are already there." "Chloe, why are you taking your anger out on your sister?" "Grandma's heart attack wasn't Emily's fault!
If you had just behaved and gone through with the wedding, Grandma wouldn't have gotten stressed out in the first place!" A violent shudder ran through my body, a freezing chill seeping deep into my bones. "Alright, Mom, Dad, stop it," Sean said, wrapping his arm around my shoulder and rubbing it gently. "Chloe is just worried about Grandma." "Let's just finish the wedding quickly, and then we'll go straight to the hospital to see Grandma.
Be good, okay?" Before I could protest, he swept me up into his arms and carried me into the chapel. The priest began to speak, restarting the ceremony.
The raw skin glued under the blindfold burned with a dull, throbbing pain. I clenched my fists, wanting to scream and stop the wedding.
But Grandma's weak groans still echoed in my ears. As I hesitated, the heavy double doors of the chapel swung open.
Emily grabbed my hand in excitement. "Chloe, Grandma is here!" "She insisted on seeing you get married with her own eyes.
You can't let her down!" I lifted my head in confusion, seeing nothing but blackness.
My parents' voices quickly chimed in. "Chloe." "Your grandmother literally dragged herself out of her hospital bed just to see you get married.
You can't break her heart." "Yes, Chloe." "Hurry up and start the wedding!" Everyone was pushing me, suffocating me.
I reached out blindly, my voice trembling. "Grandma?" A rough, calloused hand grabbed mine. "Grandma, is that you?" I squeezed the hand tightly, desperately seeking the warmth I remembered.
I remembered all those cold, rainy nights when everyone else was busy pampering Emily, while Grandma would hold me close, humming lullabies and patting my back, telling me I never had to be afraid. "Yes, dear," a raspy voice replied.
My entire body went rigid. I violently snatched my hand back. "You're not Grandma." "Emily, where is my grandmother?!
Where is she?!" I screamed in terror. "Are you all having fun playing with my life like this?!" Sean grabbed my trembling shoulders. "Chloe, Grandma is still at the hospital.
She's fine." "We just wanted you to be happy, so we hired an actress to play Grandma so you could finish the ceremony." I let out a low, broken laugh.
Grandma had loved Sean like her own grandson. She had even passed down my grandfather's precious heirloom jade pendant to him.
Back then, Sean had knelt before Grandma and sworn that he would never lie to me as long as he lived. And now, he had hired an actress to pretend to be her.
I shoved Sean away with all the strength I had left. With a heavy thud, Sean stumbled back, hitting the wall with a muffled groan. "Sean!
The wedding is off!" I bolted toward the exit. Since I couldn't see, I crashed headfirst into a pillar and collapsed to the floor.
But I forced myself back up, stumbling and dragging myself toward the doors.
Suddenly, Emily's piercing wail echoed from behind me. "No!" "Grandma... the doctors said... they couldn't save Grandma!" My entire world shattered.
I collapsed to the ground, completely paralyzed. "No... that's not true... it can't be..." Emily rushed over and shoved me hard. "It's all your fault, Chloe!
Why did you have to make such a scene at your own wedding?!" "Why did you have to stress Grandma out and kill her?!" I lay on the cold floor, my forehead throbbing from where it had hit the tiles.
I forgot how to fight back.
My parents' harsh rebukes rained down on me. "Chloe, you are such a disappointment." "Grandma loved you the most, and you literally stressed her to death!" Even Sean stood over me, his voice dripping with disappointment and blame. "Chloe, Grandma is gone.
Are you still going to throw a tantrum?" "The wedding is postponed.
Go home and think about what you've done." The sound of footsteps faded away, one by one, leaving me entirely alone. I slapped myself hard across the face. It was me.
I killed Grandma. It was all my fault. I broke down, sobbing and laughing like a madwoman.
With a wild, desperate surge of strength, I clawed at the blindfold, ripping it off my face.
When my eyes finally adjusted to the light, the scene before me made my breath catch in my throat. Sean was walking away in the distance, wearing a casual tshirt and jeans.
The groom's suit that I had handpicked for him was being worn by Jared, his best friend.
Jared was looking back at my pathetic state, unable to suppress a mocking laugh. "Hahaha..." "Chloe, I forgot to tell you.
Sean already had a wedding ceremony with Emily earlier today.
He asked me to fill in for him to finish yours so you wouldn't feel left out!" I froze, burying my face in my hands as a hollow, agonized scream tore from my throat.
My parents, my sister, my husband... In the end, I was the only outsider. My tears seeped into the raw wounds on my face, and the burning pain snapped me back to reality.
I wiped my face, dialed a familiar number, and forced my voice to remain steady. "Get here in fifteen minutes. I'm marrying you."

She knew Sean’s scent, his ring—but when she grabbed the fourth man, Jared slipped on the ring and kissed her instead. Sean watched, did nothing. Then the blindfold wouldn’t come off. Glue. Emily laughed. Jared’s tongue traced her cheek. And Sean poured warm water for Emily, not her. This isn’t a wedding—it’s a trap.
