Opening · Chapter 1
Ethan's nineteenth affair was with Natalie, my nonbiological sister. He sat naked on the bed, lighting a cigarette.
There wasn't a single trace of guilt on his face. "Chloe, your sister is way better in bed than you." In my past life, those words completely broke me.
I threw a fit and turned our lives upside down. I leaked the bedroom photos of him and Natalie to the entire world. Unable to bear the public humiliation, Ethan finally divorced me.
My parents, completely disgusted by my "wild" behavior, kicked me out of the family. I thought I could survive on my own, but reality slapped me hard.
Ethan and Natalie actively sabotaged my life, making sure I couldn't find a single job. Within just three years, I died of latestage cancer in poverty.
Natalie married Ethan and became a respected highsociety queen. Meanwhile, I, the pathetic exwife, became the ultimate laughingstock of the city.
When I opened my eyes again, I was back on the exact day he slept with my fake sister. "Chloe, what are you waiting for?
Get in there and catch that bitch!" My mother, Eleanor, urged me frantically. She looked so worried, as if she actually cared about me.
But thinking back, this whole "catching them in bed" drama was a trap set up by her and Natalie.
In my past life, I was supposed to be on a trip, but Eleanor specifically called to tip me off. Blinded by fury, I rushed home and got into a physical fight with them.
Ethan pushed me, causing me to have a miscarriage on the spot. Even though Eleanor looked shocked, she didn't call the ambulance right away.
Just like that, under my own mother's cold indulgence, I lost my child, my marriage, and my sanity.
I closed my burning eyes, suppressing the dull ache in my heart, and turned toward the exit. In this life, I finally understood. Love is worthless. Only money is real.
Seeing me walk away like it was none of my business, Eleanor froze in disbelief. She gritted her teeth and violently kicked open the bedroom door herself.
A sharp shriek echoed instantly. Natalie panicked, frantically pulling the bedsheets to cover herself as tears streamed down her face. "Eleanor... I'm sorry... I drank too much.
It was an accident..." Eleanor pretended to be shocked, rushing over to slap Natalie's shoulders while crying hysterically. Ethan didn't panic at all.
He calmly buckled his belt and lit a cigarette.
He looked at me with a mocking smirk. "So, what are you going to do this time, Chloe?" The first time he cheated, I cut off the mistress's hair.
The second time, I slashed his secretary's face. The third time, I barged into his company headquarters, causing their stock price to plummet that day.
I couldn't even remember how many times I had fought. I only remembered my raw, screaming throat and my own hideous, hysterical face.
Eventually, everyone ridiculed me behind my back: "Look, the crazy wife is catching her husband again." Yet Ethan only grew bolder and more disrespectful.
In this life, I was completely done with him. I only wanted a quiet, luxurious life.
Suddenly, with a heavy thud, Natalie fell to her knees right in front of me. "Chloe, it's all my fault! Please don't blame Ethan.
Blame me if you want!" She looked so innocent, so fragile, yet she was doing everything she could to protect my husband.
Sure enough, Ethan's expression softened, and the look he gave me grew darker and more intense. "Chloe, this matter is—" "I'm leaving.
I'm going to be late for my brunch with my friends." Before he could finish, I interrupted him flatly. With that, I ignored Ethan's stunned face, turned around, and walked out.
Eleanor panicked and tried to chase after me, but I had already sped away in my car, leaving her standing at the gates, completely dumbfounded. No one expected me to react this way.
Opening · Chapter 2
I was considerate enough to leave Ethan plenty of time to clean up his mess. I didn't leisurely walk back home until one in the morning.
But the moment I opened the door, Ethan was standing there, staring at me with a dark, furious expression. "Where the hell have you been?
I called you over ten times!" I paused in the middle of a yawn and replied casually, "I went shopping at the mall with some friends." Ethan looked at me in disbelief, his eyes searching my face.
He probably expected me to cry, scream, or even threaten to end my life.
He never expected me to do absolutely nothing and go shopping instead. "What kind of game are you playing now, Chloe?" "Natalie is still your sister.
Have some decency and don't hurt an innocent girl." I shook my head, my voice incredibly calm. "She's my sister.
I won't do anything to her." I paused, remembering something, and added, "She looked pretty shaken up today. She might get sick from the scare.
You should go visit her tomorrow." The entire living room fell into a suffocating silence.
When Ethan spoke, his voice sounded like it was being squeezed out of his throat. "You're telling me to go see her?" I knew why he was shocked.
In the past, forget about pushing him to see other women—if I saw any girl so much as look at him, I would interrogate him for three days like a psychopath.
Looking back, I really was insane. My wrist was suddenly grabbed in a tight, painful grip.
Ethan looked down at me, his eyes filled with confusion and a trace of panic. "Chloe, what the hell is wrong with you?" I brushed his hand off, keeping my tone perfectly flat. "Nothing.
Don't overthink it." I had been out all day and was exhausted, especially with a secret life growing inside my belly. Ethan's face turned pale with anger as he followed me.
But just as his hand was about to touch my shoulder, his phone rang loudly.
As soon as he picked up, Eleanor's hysterical screaming echoed through the speaker. "Natalie tried to commit suicide! Someone leaked her intimate photos!
She couldn't take the shame and swallowed a bottle of sleeping pills!" Ethan snapped his head toward me, his eyes filled with pure rage. I froze.
I did leak those photos in my past life. But this time, I hadn't done a thing.
Without giving me a chance to explain, Ethan dragged me into his car, completely ignoring my struggles.
When we arrived at the hospital, Eleanor threw herself to the floor and knelt before me. Her face was filled with desperate, biased maternal love. "I beg you, Chloe!
Just let Natalie have Ethan, please! Your sister is too fragile.
She can't live without him!" Looking at Eleanor's blatant favoritism, a sharp pain still managed to stab through my heart. The fragile one should have been me.
I was the one switched at birth, raised in a sketchy, abusive foster home in a rural town. At four years old, I had to climb onto a stool to cook.
If the food wasn't perfect, my foster mother would slap me across the face. At twelve, I was forced to drop out of school to work in a textile factory.
My thumb and index finger were crushed by a machine, leaving permanent scars.
Yet, on the day my biological parents found me, Eleanor only looked at me with disgust and said, "Is this really our daughter?
Why does she look like trailer trash?" My thoughts were pulled back by Eleanor's loud weeping. I slowly looked up at Ethan, only to find him staring at me intensely.
It was as if he, too, was waiting for my answer. I smiled slightly and looked back down at Eleanor. "Of course.
As long as she doesn't expect a marriage certificate, Ethan can spend as much time with Natalie as she wants." Eleanor's crying face instantly froze.
Ethan took a step forward, grabbed my arm, and pinned me violently against the hospital wall. "You're using me to pay off your sisterly debts?" "Chloe, what the fuck am I to you?!" He roared in my face, his voice cracking at the end.
Looking into his bloodshot eyes, I was genuinely confused. "Isn't this exactly what you wanted?" Ethan had always hated our arranged alliance.
He looked down on me, thinking I was uneducated and classless. Even after marrying me, he kept his mistresses lined up outside. Why was he acting like the victim now?
Opening · Chapter 3
During our argument, the emergency room doors opened. Natalie had been saved.
The moment she saw me, she shrieked and curled back into her bed as if I were a monster. "Don't come near me! You already leaked my photos! What else do you want? Get out!
Get out!" Arthur and Eleanor immediately blocked me, their defensive glares piercing through me like knives.
Suppressing the bitter taste in my throat, I said coldly, "I didn't leak those photos.
If you don't believe me, we can check the digital footprint right now." I unlocked my phone to show them.
But in the next second, Ethan snatched it and smashed it onto the tiled floor. "Haven't you caused enough drama already?!" The sound of the phone shattering echoed down the hallway.
Several onlookers recognized me and began filming with their phones. "Look, it's the famous scorned wife of Seattle high society." "Yeah, she's so pathetic.
Her parents don't care about her, and her husband left her at their wedding to go party at a club." "I remember that!
She actually chased him in her wedding dress and got into a physical fight with his friends." ... My past humiliations echoed in my ears.
My head buzzed, and my mind flashed back to our wedding night. It was pouring rain. Ethan was holding a longhaired woman, kissing her passionately.
I had rushed over like a madwoman, fighting them. But I was outnumbered. The woman and her friends pinned me to the wet pavement, beating me.
My white wedding dress was covered in mud and filth. And Ethan just watched coldly. Only when a crowd started to gather did he casually pull them off me.
He looked at me with disgust and said, "Go home. Stop embarrassing me." My body began to tremble. I clenched my fists to stop the numbness and turned to leave.
But Ethan thought I was running away because of a guilty conscience.
He grabbed me and shoved me down onto the floor by Natalie's bed. "Apologize to Natalie right now!" My knees hit the hard floor with a loud crack, sending a sharp wave of pain through my body.
When I looked at my parents for help, they both turned their heads away. My heart sank into an icy abyss. I let out a bitter laugh. Fortunately, I had already given up on them.
My only priority now was the safety of the baby in my womb. Natalie watched me quietly, waiting for me to lose my temper and act like a hysterical clown as usual.
Instead, I calmly accepted her slander. "I'm sorry, Natalie." Natalie's smug expression froze. She stared at me in disbelief.
Ethan pulled me up by my arm, a look of relief on his face as he patted my head. "I'm glad you finally admit your mistake." I showed no emotion, only saying, "There's a designer bag I want.
Can you buy it for me?" Ethan stiffened, his brows furrowing. He used to love throwing money at me to shut me up.
But now that I actually only cared about his money, it made him feel incredibly uncomfortable. I eventually got the bag, but Ethan's face remained extremely grim.
Eleanor glared at me with pure disdain, as if confirming that I was indeed a golddigging parasite who could never be classy. I ignored them.
But just as I picked up my bag to leave, Natalie suddenly jumped out of bed and hugged me like a loving sister. "Chloe, I forgive you." But before I could even reply, she suddenly threw herself backward onto the floor.
She looked at me with feigned terror. "Chloe, please don't hit me anymore! I promise I won't tell Ethan about him!" The entire hospital room fell dead silent.
I was completely baffled. I took a step toward her. "What the hell are you talking about?" Natalie shrieked hysterically, crawling backward until she was hiding behind Ethan's legs.
Ethan held her, glared at me, and said, "Don't be afraid, Natalie. Tell me everything."
Opening · Chapter 4
Eleanor chimed in immediately, "Don't be afraid, Natalie. We're here. Tell us!" Natalie peeked at me fearfully, then said with forced courage: "Ethan, Chloe has been lying to you.
She had a boyfriend back in her old town before the wedding, and she's still sleeping with him! She secretly meets her lover behind your back!" My brain went numb.
I snapped, "What lies are you spreading?!" "Let her speak!" Ethan barked, holding me back and staring coldly at Natalie. "How do you know this?
What else do you know?" Natalie shot me a victorious, vicious smirk, though her voice remained sweet and concerned. "Chloe, I can't keep lying to Ethan for you anymore." With that, she clapped her hands.
The hospital room door was pushed open. The moment Caleb Miller walked in, the blood drained from my face. He was the creep my foster parents had tried to sell me to.
When I was still underage, this animal had tried to lock me in a room and assault me. In the end, I smashed a glass bottle over his head and barely escaped with my life.
Natalie's voice rang out triumphantly. "This is Chloe's lover. Everyone in their old town knows they were a couple.
But Chloe kept you completely in the dark, Ethan." "You lying bitch!" I lost all control, lunging forward and slapping Natalie hard across the face.
I was shaking, reacting like a cornered animal. "Ah!" Following Natalie's scream, Ethan grabbed my arms and pinned me brutally against the wall.
His eyes were bloodshot as he roared at me: "How many more secrets are you hiding from me?!" "She's lying!
I have absolutely nothing to do with Caleb!" I sobbed, fighting back my tears as I tried to defend myself. But Caleb stepped forward and grabbed my hand.
His greasy, disgusting face twisted into a lecherous grin. "Come on, Chloe. Now that you're a rich wife, you're going to forget your old lover?
I still remember that cute red birthmark right on your chest." Ethan froze. The room felt like it had lost all oxygen.
Slowly, he turned around and threw a savage punch straight into Caleb's face. Caleb crashed to the floor, blood spurting from his nose.
Seeing that Ethan was going to kill him, he scrambled up and ran out of the room. Everyone in the room turned to look at me.
I stood there, my body trembling uncontrollably. "I have nothing to do with him. You can investigate it.
I—" Before I could finish, Ethan slapped me hard across the face, sending me crashing to the floor. He looked completely broken. "Chloe!
How dare you betray me!" Arthur turned his head away, sighing in disappointment. Eleanor didn't even try to hide her disgust. "I knew you were trash from the start.
Lying, dropping out of school, sleeping around... Is there anything you won't do?!" At this moment, they all believed Natalie's lies. My heart shattered.
I opened my mouth to speak, but a sharp, agonizing pain suddenly bloomed in my lower abdomen. I clutched my stomach, trying frantically to crawl toward the door.
Ethan's face darkened, and he violently dragged me back by my leg. "You're exposed, and now you want to run?!" Warm blood began to trickle down my inner thigh. My mind went blank.
I turned around and slapped Ethan with everything I had left. "I am pregnant, you idiot! And I am losing the baby!"
