Opening · Chapter 1

Reunited with my brother Christian after ten years, I was instead sold to the cartel by his rivals. I tried to run, but every attempt only brought worse punishment.

My fingers were broken, I was electrocuted, locked in an iron cage to fight rabid dogs, and forced to kill other captives to survive.

A year later, I was crippled, intermittently deaf, and blind in one eye.

Everyone thought I had lost the will to live, but I dragged myself back to the Sterling mansion on pure survival instinct. I thought I was finally going home to my brother.

Instead, I saw Marcus, the cartel leader who kidnapped me, bowing to Christian. "Mr. Sterling, I assure you, we've broken her. She's completely submissive now.

She will never trouble Chloe again." My breath caught. I tried to crawl away, but Marcus spotted me. He grabbed my hair with a sneer. "Come on, sweetheart.

Be a good girl and let's go home." My heart turned to ash as I watched Christian's retreating back. There was no rival kidnapping.

The person I trusted most had orchestrated my nightmare just to appease his precious adopted sister. If that's how it is, then let's all burn in hell together!

A year ago, I was reunited with my brother, Christian, after being apart for ten years. He took time out of his busy schedule to take me to an amusement park.

But on the way, our car was violently rammed by his rivals. Before I lost consciousness, Christian shielded me tightly in his arms.

But I never expected that when I woke up, I would be surrounded by strangers. And my brother was nowhere to be found. The men stood over me like predators.

Seeing me stir, a brutal, hulking man slapped me hard across the face. "What are you looking at? Your brother ruined my family.

I'm going to make him feel what it's like to lose his precious little sister." Before I could wonder why I was the only one taken, my brain scrambled for a way to escape.

The crowd parted, and a man with a deep scar on his face walked in. He tossed a phone at me. "You're awake? Then do as you're told if you want to see your brother again. Call him.

Tell him to come." I scrambled forward, grabbing the phone, and tried to dial 911 when they weren't looking. The next second, the phone was kicked out of my hand.

The scarred man, Marcus, stomped on my hand, snapping my fingers. "Trying to call the cops?

There's no signal here, sweetheart." I rolled on the ground in agony, only then realizing the landline in the corner was completely dead.

Suppressing my terror, I forced myself to look up defiantly. "Kill me if you want.

But if you think you can use me to threaten Christian, you're dreaming!" He stared at me and smirked. "You've got guts." I was locked up and starved for three days.

On the fourth day, someone finally brought me water. I grabbed her hand, begging, "Please, help me. My brother is a billionaire. If you let me go, I'll give you money.

Millions." The girl, Fiona, hesitated. A flicker of hope rose in my chest. With her support, I struggled to stand. But then, Marcus burst in and kicked me hard in the stomach.

My organs felt like they were rupturing. I curled into a ball, shaking and sweating cold sweat. My brief hope shattered instantly.

Marcus leaned down. "Still bragging about your brother? His billions were built on our blood.

I'm going to rip him to shreds." I lunged forward and bit his ear as hard as I could. "Let go, you bitch!" he screamed, raining punches down on me.

I was too weak from starvation to hold on for long. Soon, my grip loosened, and I fell limp. Marcus, free now, kicked me repeatedly in the ribs. "Bitch! Fucking bitch!

I'll beat you to death! How dare you bite me!" I coughed up a pool of blood, my consciousness fading. Fiona rushed in to hold him back. "Stop! Stop!

She's coughing up blood!" Marcus paused, grunting. "Make sure you patch her up." I lay on the cold floor for two days.

When Fiona came to treat my wounds, I managed to steal a small metal bobby pin from her hair. In the dead of night, I slipped it into the iron padlock.

My broken fingers throbbed with whitehot pain at the slightest movement. I clenched my teeth, tears streaming down my face as I picked at the lock.

The lock fell open with a clear click. It worked. Heart pounding, I peeked outside. To my surprise, there was no one guarding the corridor.

I dragged myself along the wall, finally stepping into the moonlight. I ran.

I ran as fast as my battered body could carry me, popping the blisters on my soles, leaving a trail of blood behind. Suddenly, I slipped and fell into a large body of water.

The salt stung my open wounds so badly I almost shrieked. Under the pale moonlight, I looked around. Despair instantly crushed my soul.

There was nothing but water in every direction. This was a desolate island, surrounded by the ocean.

Opening · Chapter 2

I hid in the tall grass, planning to wait until dawn to find a way to signal for help. Suddenly, footsteps approached.

I held my breath, unable to believe they had found me so quickly. "I see you. Come out quietly," a grating voice echoed.

I clamped my hand over my mouth, my scalp tingling with terror. "Guess she's not here. Let's search over there." The footsteps faded.

I collapsed onto the wet dirt, gasping for air, and looked around. "Hey there, little mouse. Having fun?" Marcus sneered from above me, looking down into the grass.

I slowly looked up, trembling like a leaf. Marcus tied my wrists to the back of his motorcycle. He dragged me.

Gravel tore into my wounds, branches shredded my arms, and my clothes turned entirely crimson. I retched from the pain, blacking out and waking up repeatedly.

Finally, a sudden screech of brakes ended the torture. Marcus barked, "Hang her up.

Let's see her try to run under my nose again." They stripped me of my bloodied clothes and hung me up by my wrists at the entrance.

The sheer humiliation and helplessness suffocated me. Tears spilled freely. The guards gathered around, mocking me. "She's got some fight in her.

Almost made it off the island." "A tough nut to crack. But everyone breaks in our hands eventually. Look at that soft skin..." Another guard quickly covered his mouth. "Shh!

You're taking this role too seriously. She's offlimits." But my mind was too foggy to register those words. By the time they finally cut me down, I was barely breathing.

To make sure I could never pick a lock again, Marcus used wooden blocks to crush my fingers one by one. The agony was so intense I foamed at the mouth and blacked out.

When I woke up, I was on a gurney, my face covered except for my eyes. I darted my eyes around, trying to calculate my chances of escape.

Fiona noticed I was awake and patted my back reassuringly. "Don't worry.

I'm getting you out of here." My heart was in my throat the entire time, terrified this was just another sick trap.

After twisting through several corridors, we entered a windowless, soundproof room. I grabbed her hand in fear. "Where are we? You said you were helping me escape!" "Calm down.

There's a signal booster in here. Quick, call your brother." The call connected. I cried out frantically, "Christian! Help me!

Please, come save me!" There was static on the other end, but the voice that came through made my heart stop. "Hazel, I don't have time for your childish jealousy.

Haven't you thrown enough tantrums?" I froze. He didn't believe me. But he had seen me get knocked out in the crash! Fiona let out a soft chuckle and snatched the phone away.

She tapped a monitor on the wall. "Well? Entertaining, isn't it? Breaking someone's hope is always the most fun." I stared at her in utter disbelief. She had set me up.

I lunged to grab the phone, but an electric shock surged from my skull to my toes.

Marcus held a taser against my back, leaving me convulsing on the floor, my limbs completely numb. "Some people just don't know when to quit," Marcus spat. "Where do you think you can run?

Everyone here works for me. Just submit, and you'll suffer less." The shock left me twitching, my eyes bulging in a grotesque, forced spasm.

Marcus looked at Fiona's phone with a hint of worry. "She looks like she's on the verge of going crazy.

If Christian finds out..." The voice on the other end of the line changed from Christian to a sweet, feminine voice. "It's just a little lesson.

The scar on my stomach still hasn't faded, you know." "But Mr. Sterling..." "Fine, I'll let Christian tell you himself," Chloe whined.

Christian took the phone. "Is she throwing another fit? Let her suffer a bit. If she can't wash off those street habits, she'll never be fit to represent the Sterling family.

If she keeps acting up, use whatever means necessary to quiet her down.

Understood?" Marcus grinned. "Understood, sir." Chloe took the phone back, her voice dripping with mock innocence. "You know, the thing a girl cares about most is her face and her virginity, right?" Marcus's eyes lit up. "Got it."

Opening · Chapter 3

When I woke up, my wrists and ankles were bound by heavy chains. Marcus sneered, approaching me. "Finally awake.

I've never tasted a billionaire's sister before." My heart hammered. "What are you doing?" He yanked my hair, forcing my head down. The sheer disgust made me throw up.

I vomited all over him. He shoved me away with a curse. "Not a fan?

Fine, I'll let the others have a turn." I crawled to my knees, stripping away every ounce of my pride. "Please... please stop. I'll do anything.

Just please." He unchained me. "Bark like a dog." I barked three times, completely numb. He raised his phone, recording me as he ordered me to strike humiliating, degrading poses.

To survive, I swallowed the shame and complied, ignoring the pain. But it didn't stop them. The door kept opening, and men kept coming in.

At first, I fought back with everything I had. But every resistance was met with brutal slaps that left my ears ringing. Eventually, I stopped fighting.

The hatred in my heart burned into a silent, searing flame. Seeing me completely still, Marcus panicked. He rushed over to check my pulse.

I used every bit of strength left in my body to lock my hands around his throat. "Die!" Even if I died, I was taking him with me. He slammed me onto the ground with a brutal throw.

Dazed and broken, I whimpered in pain. Marcus rubbed his neck. "You really need to learn some manners." He pulled out a knife and sliced a deep gash across my cheek.

Blood poured down my face, getting into my eyes and mouth. I screamed in agony until I blacked out. The physical and psychological torture pushed me to the brink of madness.

I had only just reunited with my brother. Why was I in this living hell? Why didn't he believe me? I missed my adoptive brother, Julian. I wanted to go home!

Through the haze of pain, I thought I heard Chloe's voice. I shook my head. No, that was impossible. Fiona walked in and gasped when she saw my face. "Marcus!

We agreed no visible scars! How are we going to explain this?" She hurriedly called Chloe, who was busy shopping.

The phone rang several times before Chloe picked up. "Her face is ruined!" Fiona panicked. "What do we do?" "Why are you panicking?" Chloe dismissed her coldly. "Just say she tripped and fell.

Christian is an idiot. He believes whatever I tell him." Chloe hung up, losing interest. She then sent a batch of AImanipulated videos to Christian.

In the videos, a deepfake version of me boasted arrogantly, "Who does Chloe think she is? The Sterling fortune will be mine.

I should have killed her sooner." The video ended with fabricated, graphic footage of me in bed with multiple men. The next second, Marcus's phone rang.

It was Christian. "What the hell is going on? I told you to teach her a lesson, and she's still trying to hurt Chloe?

She clearly doesn't respect me as her brother." "Her attitude will bring ruin to our family sooner or later. Starve her for a few more days.

Just keep her alive." Marcus hung up and smirked at Fiona. "See? I told you. Never mess with Miss Chloe.

This is what happens." After that day, the door to my room never stopped opening. I was treated like a piece of garbage, discarded on the floor day after day.

Until one night, one of the guards felt a flicker of pity and left the door unlocked. A voice inside my head screamed that it was another trap.

But my survival instinct wouldn't let me pass up any chance. I ran. Avoiding the guards, I sprinted blindly into the dark. If I could just get out, there had to be a way.

But my flight ended inside a massive iron cage. The heavy lock clicked shut behind me. My heart shattered. I collapsed to my knees. I had been fooled again.

Marcus stepped out, jingling the keys. "So, want to show us how you pick locks again?" A synthesized voice came from his phone. "Let Shadow play with her." A massive, halfstarved black Mastiff was released into the cage.

It stared at me, drool dripping from its jaws. I pressed myself against the iron bars, terrified to move a muscle.

On the other side of the country, Chloe looked at her phone and smiled.

Christian walked down the stairs. "Chloe, what's making you so happy?" Chloe quickly hid her phone. "Nothing, Christian. Just found a funny meme." "It's been four months.

I wonder how Hazel is doing. She's learned her lesson, and you've had time to cool off.

Should we bring her back?" Chloe immediately pulled back her sleeve, exposing a scar. "Christian, she left this horrible scar on my stomach.

It's only been a few months, and I'm still terrified of her. If she comes back, she'll hate me even more. Maybe I should just leave.

After all, she's your real sister." Christian quickly held her, stopping her fake tears. "Don't be silly. You're both my sisters. Fine... let her stay there a bit longer.

Just keep an eye on her and make sure she's safe." The moment Christian left, Chloe unmuted her phone. "Oh, I'll make sure she's very safe. Watching her stand there is boring.

Give Shadow a little treat." Following her orders, Marcus tossed a piece of raw meat near me. The dog lunged, but instead of the meat, its jaws clamped hard onto my arm.

The smell of blood drove the beast wild. It tore a chunk of flesh right out of my forearm. I screamed in absolute agony.

In a primal fit of survival, I leaned forward and bit the dog's eye. The Mastiff yelped, releasing my arm, but then sprang back, pinning me to the floor.

Its massive jaws opened wide, aiming straight for my throat. I closed my eyes in resignation. Death would be a mercy. At least the pain would stop.

Marcus panicked, realizing he had gone too far. He raised a tranquilizer gun and shot both me and the dog.

Opening · Chapter 4

When I woke up, Marcus tossed a knife at my feet. "Looks like your brother doesn't give a damn about you. Since you're stuck here, you might as well entertain us.

There are ten other captives in the next room. Only one gets to leave this island alive.

Survive, and you go free." I gripped the knife, trying to negotiate. "How do I know you're not lying to me again?" Marcus sneered. "Do you think you're in a position to negotiate?" I hid in the shadows, clutching the knife.

I watched people scream and fall. The sheer brutality of the arena pushed me past the brink of sanity.

The floor was slick with blood, the air thick with the metallic stench of death. I couldn't sleep. I couldn't even blink, terrified that the next second would be my last.

Until a young boy threw himself in front of me to block a lethal strike. His blood splattered across my face as he dragged me to run. Eventually, we were the only two left.

But then, the boy turned on me. He snatched my knife and plunged it deep into my thighs. I collapsed, my legs useless.

Even though my heart was already numb, the betrayal stung. "Why?" "Only one of us gets to live, Hazel.

It's either you or me." But before he could strike again, I managed to push the blade back into his chest. I closed my eyes. It was finally over. I didn't die.

Instead, through a stroke of luck, I was smuggled onto a cargo ship by a sympathetic crew member.

When the ship finally docked, I realized with a jolt of hope that we were at the Sterling private harbor.

Overjoyed, I dragged my useless legs and crawled off the ship when no one was looking. As I dragged my bleeding body toward the mansion, I saw my brother through the glass doors.

But right next to him was a voice that would haunt my nightmares forever. Marcus. He was bowing respectfully. "Mr. Sterling, I assure you, we've broken her.

She's completely submissive now. She will never trouble Chloe again." "Good. Bring her back when you have time.

She's suffered enough, and she won't dare harm her sister again." I stared in horror, my very soul shaking.

My biological brother had orchestrated my living hell just to teach me a lesson for his adopted sister.

Just because Chloe had accused me of pushing her down the stairs, leaving a scar.

Christian had pretended to forgive me, only to throw me into a den of monsters to appease Chloe and show his authority. I wanted to crawl inside and scream at him.

Did he ever care about me? Suddenly, a foot stomped heavily onto my head, and two pairs of hands dragged me into the darkness. It was Chloe.

She looked down at me, inspecting my mangled body. "My, my, look at you, Hazel. So pathetic. Weren't you acting so high and mighty when you first arrived?

Let me tell you a secret: in Christian's heart, you're not even worthy of wiping my shoes.

No matter how badly you're hurt, all I have to do is cry, and he'll just think you're throwing another jealous tantrum." The voice matched the one from the phone perfectly.

I glared at her, my eyes wild with rage. "It was you! You did all of this! I'll tell Christian!" She kicked my chin up. "Are you stupid or just naive?

Do you really think no one saw you crawl onto this estate? Do you think Christian doesn't know you're here? Why isn't he looking for you?

How do you think you ended up on that cargo ship anyway? You think that was a coincidence?" My heart died right then. My eyes went blank, and I lost the strength to even crawl.

Chloe smiled triumphantly. Destroying a person's mind is far more satisfying than breaking their body. She ordered Marcus to take me back.

They locked me in a tool shed on the island. They didn't beat me anymore. Instead, they patched my wounds and forced me to eat. I didn't cry. I didn't speak. I didn't even blink.

I was a walking corpse. Chloe saw that I was completely broken, and decided it was time to let me go home.

But the night before they were supposed to send me back, I used a lighter I had stolen to set the shed on fire. The flames spread rapidly, blocking the exit.

Marcus had come to warn me not to say anything when I got back. By the time he reached the shed, the fire was already out of control. He panicked and dialed Christian's number. "Mr.

Sterling, we have a problem! Hazel set herself on fire! She's committing suicide!" At the same time, Chloe received a frantic call. "Miss Chloe, we're screwed!

The girl killed herself, and the cops are swarming the island!"
