Opening · Chapter 1

My roommate got pregnant behind her boyfriend’s back with some random guy, and she begged me to go to an abortion clinic with her.

In a shady, unlicensed clinic, she suffered severe hemorrhaging during the procedure, and they had to perform an emergency hysterectomy. "If you hadn't forced her to do this, she wouldn’t have lost her uterus!" Her boyfriend went berserk when he found out.

He demanded a million dollars in compensation.

I refused to back down, so he drove a knife straight into my heart. "If you won't pay with cash, you'll pay with your life!" When I opened my eyes again, I was back on the exact day my roommate begged me to go to the clinic. "Mila, please come with me.

If even you won't help me, I really don’t know what to do." A pitiful, tearful voice echoed in my ears. I gasped, my eyes flying open.

I was sitting at my desk in our shared university suite. I had been reborn. The agonizing sensation of my heart being pierced was still fresh.

I clutched my chest, my heart hammering against my ribs.

Standing in front of me was my roommate, Chloe, crying her eyes out, just like in my past life. "Mila, you're my best friend. You're the only one who knows about this.

Please, just come to the clinic with me..." In my past life, my soft heart got the better of me. I had accompanied her to the clinic.

But Chloe insisted on going to a sketchy, backalley clinic, claiming that a public hospital would leave a medical record and her boyfriend would find out.

I was too naive to understand her real motive back then. Only later did I realize she had gotten pregnant during a wild onenight stand with some random guy.

During the surgery, she suffered a massive hemorrhage. To save her life, the doctors had to remove her uterus. Her boyfriend, Tyler, found out.

To shift the blame, Chloe lied and told him that I was the one who pressured her and introduced her to that shady clinic. Tyler was furious. "Mila, are you even human?!

It's one thing for you to be wild outside, but how could you drag my sweet Chloe into this? She thought of you as her sister!" "If it weren't for you, our baby would still be alive!

Chloe lost her uterus because of you!

You owe us five million dollars for medical bills, nutrition, and mental damages!" Faced with Tyler's outrageous demand, I was utterly dumbfounded. It was completely absurd.

I had only accompanied her to the clinic out of pity. How on earth did I suddenly inherit a fivemilliondollar debt? I flatly refused and threatened to call the police.

In a fit of rage, Tyler pulled out a knife, a hideous sneer on his face, and plunged it into my chest. "Since you won't pay, go to hell and keep my baby company!" I was stabbed multiple times and bled to death on the cold floor.

My mind snapped back to the present. I looked at Chloe’s fake, tearstained face, and forced a look of surprise. "Pregnant? Chloe, that's amazing news!

You should be discussing marriage with Tyler, not looking for an abortion." "But we're still college students!

How can we get married and have a baby now?" Chloe sniffled, trying to justify herself. "Mila, I'm so scared.

You won't leave me hanging, right?" I rolled my eyes. "What does that have to do with me? I didn't get you pregnant."

Opening · Chapter 2

Hearing this, Chloe’s face instantly hardened. "Mila! How can you be so heartless? How can you say something like that?" I sneered. "I just did.

What are you going to do about it?" I’ve already died once because of you.

Do you really think I’m stupid enough to fall for your trap again? "Mila, Tyler and I are just from ordinary families. This baby was an accident.

We're in college; we can't afford to raise a child!" Chloe’s tears flowed again, her voice dripping with dramatic sorrow. "I'm not asking you for money.

I'm not asking you to take care of me. I'm just asking you to walk into a clinic with me. I can't believe you'd deny me such a simple request!" I was amazed by her audacity.

Seriously? She was trying to guilttrip me? What a sob story. If I hadn't literally died because of her, I might have actually believed her.

In my past life, Chloe and I weren't even close. We were just polite roommates. She usually hung out with our other two roommates.

I was the loner who spent my days commuting between the library, classroom, and dorm.

So when she suddenly confided in me about her pregnancy and asked me to accompany her, I was taken aback.

Why share such a deeply personal secret with me instead of her actual best friends in the dorm? But back then, I was too softhearted.

I thought it was just a quick trip to the doctor, a normal favor between roommates. It was only after I died, when my soul lingered in the dorm, that I learned the horrifying truth.

Chloe and the other two roommates regularly went to highend clubs to hook up with rich, older men. The baby wasn't Tyler's, and they all knew it.

Since she couldn't keep the baby anyway, they decided to use the situation to blackmail me for a massive payout.

So, Chloe dragged me to the shady clinic while the other two tipped off Tyler, telling him to catch me there. But the surgery went wrong, and Chloe lost her uterus.

When Tyler arrived, Chloe was clinging to life on the bed. Blinded by rage, Tyler grabbed me, demanded millions, and when I refused, he stabbed me to death.

To cover up the crime, Chloe and Tyler dismembered my body and disposed of it.

The other two roommates helped them cover it up, telling our academic advisor that I had taken a sudden leave of absence to go home.

They even used my phone to post scheduled updates on Snapchat to pretend I was still alive.

By the time my parents realized something was wrong and called the police, two months had passed. My murder became a cold case.

The killers walked free, and my parents' hair turned white overnight from grief. The mere memory made my heart ache with a phantom, tearing pain.

In this life, I will make every single one of them pay.

Opening · Chapter 3

As I was lost in thought, Vanessa, our other roommate, walked into the room and immediately pointed her finger at me. "Mila, don't be so damn selfish!" I raised an eyebrow. "Excuse me?" She scoffed righteously. "Chloe treats you so well, and we all see it!

We all live in the same suite. It’s just a trip to the clinic, and you won’t even do that?

We really misjudged you!" "If you're so generous, why don't you go with her?" I let out a cold laugh. "And while you're at it, why don't you pay for her surgery, her hospital bills, and her recovery food?

We all live in the same suite, Vanessa. Surely you're not too selfish to help her out with that?" Vanessa glared at me. "Are you insane? What does her surgery have to do with me?

Why the hell should I pay for her?" "See?

Nobody wants to help when it actually costs them something." I shrugged at Chloe, whose expression was turning venomous. "Mila, we’ve been roommates for two years.

Are you really refusing to help me?" Her tone made it sound like if I said "yes," she would pull out a knife and slash me right then and there.

I changed my tone, pretending to look troubled. "It’s not that I don’t want to go, Chloe. I really don’t have the time.

I'm competing in several academic contests this weekend to secure my earlyadmission grad school fellowship.

I have to be at the labs all weekend..." "Then tell the academic advisor you’re dropping out of the competition!" Brianna, our fourth roommate, walked in and chimed in. "Chloe's pregnancy is a major crisis!

Are you seriously going to choose a stupid fellowship over helping your friend?" "Wait, are you really pregnant?" I feigned confusion. "You haven't gained any weight, and you don’t have morning sickness at all.

You look perfectly fine." I gasped, pretending to have a sudden realization. "Oh, I get it! You guys are just jealous of my grades and want to ruin my chances for the fellowship!

You're making up this whole pregnancy thing just to force me to drop out!" The three of them rolled their eyes in unison.

Chloe stood up, snatched a positive pregnancy test from her drawer, and slammed it onto the desk. "Mila, you have a seriously twisted mind!

Why would I lie about being pregnant?" I picked up the pregnancy test, turned it over with a look of disgust, and tossed it back. "Please.

You can buy a pack of thirty of these on Wish for five dollars. This proves nothing." Vanessa couldn't take it anymore.

She yanked open Chloe's drawer, pulled out an official medical report, and threw it in my face. "Chloe went to the hospital last week! She's over three months pregnant!

Everyone's body reacts differently. Who says every pregnant woman has to throw up and get fat?" I picked up the report.

While they weren't looking, I quickly took a clear photo of it with my phone. Then, I slowly sighed. "Fine, I believe you. I'll go to Mr.

Sterling's office right now and tell him I'm dropping out of the competition." The three roommates let out a collective sigh of relief. They exchanged smug, victorious glances.

As soon as I stepped out of the dorm, I stopped the secret voice recording on my phone. I used a burner account to add Tyler on Snapchat.

Once he accepted, I sent him the photo of the medical report and the edited audio recording of our conversation. A text popped up from him almost instantly: Who is this?

Is this a joke? Chloe and I have only been dating for four months, and we've only been sleeping together for two.

How the hell is she three months pregnant? I smiled, left him on read, and blocked him immediately.

Opening · Chapter 4

I walked into Mr. Sterling's office, my face a mask of distress. "Mr. Sterling, I can't participate in the academic competition this weekend." Hearing this, Mr.

Sterling almost jumped out of his chair. "What? Why? Our entire department is counting on you to win the national prize!

Why are you dropping out?" I bit my lip, hesitating and sniffing, before whispering reluctantly: "Because... my roommate, Chloe Sinclair... she's pregnant.

I have to take her to get an abortion and take care of her. The competition... I'll just have to try again next year..." The news hit him like a thunderbolt. Mr.

Sterling let out a horrified shriek. "SHE'S WHAT?!

PREGNANT?!" In universities, academic advisors aren't afraid of students failing classes; they are terrified of scandals and liabilities. "Oh my god!

Tell Chloe to come to my office right now! I need to speak with her!" Capitalizing on his panic, I quickly slipped out of the office. But Chloe wouldn't be able to see him.

Because at that very moment, she was being rushed to the hospital after being brutally beaten by her loving boyfriend. I had to hand it to Tyler; his reaction time was impeccable.

The moment he saw the medical report, he rushed to our dorm building. When Chloe walked out, he met her with a violent backhand slap to the face. "You dirty whore!

I've only been sleeping with you for two months, and you're carrying a threemonthold parasite?!" The slap sent Chloe spinning to the ground.

Tyler had always been wrapped around her finger, so his sudden violence shocked and angered her. She scrambled up and slapped him back. "Are you out of your mind?!

What garbage are you talking about? Is your brain filled with literal shit?" Tyler shoved his phone in her face, pointing at the medical report. "You're still lying!

The whole world knows what a slut you are, and I was the only idiot kept in the dark!

I had to find out from a stranger that I've been wearing a giant green horns for three months!" The more Tyler spoke, the angrier he got.

He grabbed Chloe by her hair, slammed her onto the pavement, and began kicking her viciously in the stomach. "You played so innocent when we started dating!

You wouldn't even let me touch you, and all the while you were getting plowed by some other guy! I'll kill you, you lying bitch!" Chloe screamed in agony on the ground.

Hearing the commotion, Vanessa and Brianna rushed downstairs, pulled Tyler off her, and dialed 911. Chloe was knocked unconscious and rushed to the ER.

Tyler was handcuffed and thrown into a police cruiser. I only found out about the details when I returned to the dorm.

According to eyewitnesses, Tyler had kicked Chloe in the stomach multiple times. There was a pool of blood on the concrete. The baby was almost certainly gone.
