Opening · Chapter 1

My wife and her lover murdered me. As I lay dying, she leaned in and whispered in my ear, "The baby is his. I never loved you.

Marrying you was just my backup plan!" Years ago, I couldn't bear to see her getting bullied by the school jock, so I stepped in to save her.

Little did I know, she actually fell in love with her bully, enjoying every bit of his toxic abuse. Under their mocking glares, I slowly closed my eyes.

But when I opened them again, I was back in high school—specifically, the exact day the bully was cornering her in the parking lot.

This time, I decided to pull up a chair and enjoy the show: "Go ahead, abuse her.

I’ll just treat this as a free movie!" "Damn it, this bastard is hard to kill!" A beefy guy with bleached blonde hair stood behind me, wrapping a thick electrical cord around my neck and pulling it back with all his might!

The wire dug deep into my flesh. No matter how hard I clawed at it, I couldn't loosen it even a millimeter. Instead, I only ended up tearing my own throat into a bloody mess.

My lungs burned like fire, convulsing violently from the lack of oxygen. I opened my mouth wide, desperate for air, but not a single breath came.

My vision began to go black, and the shadow of death crept over me. Right then, the bedroom door clicked open. My sweet, beautiful wife, Melanie Davis, appeared at the door.

Her eyes widened in shock. Hope flared inside me. I desperately gestured to her, silently begging her to call the cops.

But the next words from behind me turned my blood to ice. "Bitch, get over here and help me hold him down!" Marcus Carter barked.

And Melanie, my supposedly elegant wife, actually walked over submissively. She threw her weight onto my arms and legs, pinning me down so I couldn't struggle anymore! Why?!

My eyes bulged as I stared at her in utter disbelief.

Perhaps reading the confusion in my eyes, Melanie leaned down and kissed Marcus right in front of me, her hands already wandering inappropriately.

Marcus grunted impatiently, "Not now! I'm busy, bitch. I'll satisfy you later!

Help me finish this first!" Melanie kept her weight on me, whispering in my ear, "Do you still remember Marcus?" I tried to turn my head in shock, but the man behind me didn't give me the chance.

Yes. I had always found him vaguely familiar. With Melanie’s reminder, it finally clicked.

The man strangling me was none other than Marcus Carter—the high school bully who used to harass her! How? When did they start sleeping behind my back?

And why would Melanie do this to me?! I couldn't ask a single question now. My vision tunneled, darkness encroaching, and my strength faded into nothingness.

Melanie leaned even closer, her breath hot against my ear as she whispered, "The baby is his. I never loved you.

Marrying you was just my backup plan because you were rich and stupid!" With that, she let out a delighted, mocking laugh! From the hallway, our daughter’s crying echoed.

Maybe the noise had scared her. But I had no time to worry about that.

My vision went completely black, and my consciousness plunged into absolute darkness. I didn't know how much time had passed. "Hey! Why are you spacing out?

Wait, did you seriously fall asleep?" A familiar voice called out near my ear. I blinked my eyes open. I was sitting in a familiar classroom.

Outside the window, the final bell of the day was ringing. Teenagers in high school clothes were laughing and chatting as they packed up.

I looked down and saw myself in the same school hoodie. Did I... travel back in time? Back to high school? "Hey, I'm talking to you!" A slender, pale hand waved in front of my face.

I turned my head. My desk partner was staring at me with a frown. It was none other than my future wife, Melanie Davis! For a moment, I didn't know how to react.

But in this lifetime, I already knew that beneath her innocent, angellike facade hid a rotten, filthy heart. "Don't forget, you have to walk me to my car today.

I’m scared I’ll run into Marcus again!" Melanie said as she began packing her backpack. Her words triggered a flood of dusty memories.

Melanie and I had been lab partners since junior year. Back then, I was completely headoverheels for her.

I would drive twenty minutes out of my way every single morning just to get her favorite Starbucks order, and I practically did all her AP science projects.

I spent so much money on her that I was always broke. To put it bluntly, I was her ultimate simp. For the past couple of days, Marcus had been bothering her.

She wanted me to walk her out today specifically to use me as a shield against him. In my past life, I thought Melanie genuinely detested Marcus. But now I knew better.

Whatever sick game they were playing, I wasn’t going to be their pawn anymore. I shook my head and said, "Go on without me.

I have some stuff to take care of." As soon as the words left my mouth, Leo Barnes, Melanie’s childhood friend, popped out of nowhere. "Melanie, I can walk you out.

We park in the same lot anyway." Leo had always played the "best friend" card, texting Melanie 24/7.

Whenever Melanie and I had a disagreement, he’d immediately swoop in to comfort her while subtly talking trash about me.

He was the textbook "Nice Guy," always trying to show how sweet and caring he was. But unfortunately for Leo, he was about to run straight into a brick wall today.

Opening · Chapter 2

In my previous life, I had walked Melanie to the parking lot today, and right on cue, Marcus blocked our way. He started touching Melanie right in front of me.

In a fit of rage, I threw a punch. The fight ended with me getting two broken ribs, spending months in a hospital bed, and watching my grades slip.

This time, Melanie ignored Leo and glared at me. "Are you seriously not coming?" "I'm busy," I said. "Let Leo walk you.

Don't you guys park in the same lot anyway?" "Yeah, totally," Leo chimed in eagerly. "We haven't walked out together in forever." Even though Melanie always pushed Leo away the moment she was done using him—relegating him back to the "friend zone"—he still came running back like a loyal golden retriever.

Melanie stared at me suspiciously. "Are you scared of Marcus? Wow, I didn't realize you were such a coward." Such a lowgrade guilt trip didn't move me at all.

But to high school kids, this was a massive blow to one's pride. Leo looked at me expectantly, clearly waiting for me to lose my temper.

I just shrugged nonchalantly. "Yeah, I'm terrified.

You guys have fun." Melanie stamped her foot in frustration. "How can you be so spineless!" Hearing this, Leo immediately joined in to condemn me. "Exactly, Ethan!

Where are your manners? Do you even know how to treat a lady?" I looked up at Leo.

This guy spent every waking hour trying to slide into Melanie's DMs, acting like her knight in shining armor.

I couldn't help but offer him a piece of genuine advice: "You know, Leo... You’re a 'Nice Guy.' But in Melanie’s eyes, nice guys finish dead last, even behind the dogs.

And guys like me? We’re just the simps who pay for her lifestyle while she runs to the bad boys." In my past life, I wasn't any better than Leo. But at least now I was awake.

Both of them froze. They might not have fully grasped the slang, but they weren't stupid. They knew I was insulting them. Leo’s face flushed bright red.

He was visibly shaking with anger, but to maintain his "gentlemanly" persona, he couldn't even bring himself to curse.

What a loser. "What is wrong with you?" Melanie hissed, glaring at me. "Don't regret this, Ethan!

I was actually planning to give you a chance, but since you don't appreciate it, forget it!" With that, she turned around, her high ponytail whipping through the air, and stormed out of the classroom. "Melanie, wait!

Don't be mad, maybe he really has some family emergency," Leo called out, rushing after her. Melanie glared at him. "Leave me alone!

I can handle it!" Leo gave a weak, placating smile but kept following her. I stood by the classroom door, watching their retreating backs, a cold smirk playing on my lips.

In my last life, I risked my life to protect her from that bully, which was the only reason she agreed to be my girlfriend. In return, she murdered me.

In this life, I would never repeat that mistake.

I remembered how, in college, Melanie constantly gave me the cold shoulder, replying with singleletter texts while hooking up with frat guys and orientation leaders.

Back then, I thought I was just a bad conversationalist and felt incredibly insecure. Under her masterful gaslighting, I became an obedient, desperate simp. Not this time.

My first step was to get into a toptier university, and during the summer break, make my first pot of gold!

As I was planning my future business while walking toward the school exit, a loud commotion broke out near the parking lot. "Yo, finally got you alone. I've been waiting forever.

Come here and keep me company!" Near the school gates, Marcus was leaning against a car, blocking Melanie’s path with a sleazy grin.

To be fair, Melanie's appearance was highly deceptive. She had fair skin, a great figure, and eyes that always looked deeply emotional.

It was no wonder a brainless jock like Marcus was obsessed with her. I was actually curious. Without me stepping in this time, how would this play out?

I bought a cold soda from a vending machine, found a shaded spot nearby, and sat down to watch. Her getting bullied had absolutely nothing to do with me.

I was just here for the free show. Marcus immediately started getting handsy, pulling at her backpack straps and grabbing her jacket.

Melanie looked on the verge of tears, looking utterly helpless and pitiful. But the more she resisted, the more excited Marcus seemed.

He grabbed her arm, dragging her toward the secluded alleyway near the parking lot. "Stop right there!" Leo suddenly yelled. He actually stepped up, blocking Marcus.

Oh, the drama was getting good.

Opening · Chapter 3

Marcus sneered, looking Leo up and down. "With a scrawny body like yours, you think you can play hero?" Leo's legs were visibly shaking, but he still tried to sound brave. "You can't treat girls like this!

Let her go, or I’m calling the principal!" Marcus’s face darkened. "Say one more word, and I'll beat you to a pulp." Leo flinched, but he glanced at the tearful Melanie next to him and puffed out his chest again. "Even if you beat me up, I won't let you hurt Melanie!

If you have a problem, take it out on me!" "Fine, you asked for it!" With that, Marcus threw a heavy punch, and the two of them scrambled into a messy brawl.

Naturally, Leo was no match for the varsity athlete. Within seconds, he was knocked to the ground, curling into a ball and crying for mercy.

But Marcus didn't stop, kicking him ruthlessly in the ribs. And this time, from a bystander's perspective, I noticed something shocking.

The look in Melanie’s eyes as she watched Marcus beat up Leo wasn't fear or disgust. It was excitement. And admiration. No wonder they ended up together in my previous life.

I lost interest. The show was getting boring, and I was ready to leave. But just as I stood up, Leo suddenly shrieked, "Why are you beating me up?!

Melanie actually likes Ethan Miller! If you're so tough, go fight him!" What the hell?

I was literally just sitting here drinking my soda, and I still got thrown under the bus. "Who the fuck is Ethan Miller?" Marcus spat.

He grabbed Melanie by the waist, pulling her flush against him. "From now on, she’s my girl! Anyone who gets close to her is dead!

Whether it's you, scrawny, or that Ethan kid, don't even think about touching what's mine!" Leo’s face turned bright red, his body shaking with rage and humiliation.

Marcus spat on the ground near Leo's head, then dragged Melanie toward the alley. As an observer, I could tell Melanie wasn't resisting at all. Her "struggles" were pure foreplay.

I really must have been blind in my past life. Seeing this toxic couple about to hit it off, a wave of cold fury from my past life rushed to my head.

While Leo’s eyes were locked on them, I quietly walked past and kicked a heavy, loose brick from the garden wall right next to Leo’s hand.

Leo was staring at their retreating backs, his face red with humiliation. Suddenly, his hand brushed against the heavy brick.

Consumed by rage and desperate to prove himself, he didn't think twice.

He grabbed the brick and charged forward like a madman. "I'll kill you!" Smack! The brick slammed directly into the back of Marcus’s head.

The force was so strong that the brick actually cracked in half. Marcus’s head burst open, and he collapsed instantly into a pool of blood. Melanie let out a piercing shriek.

Seeing things get out of hand, I calmly pulled out my phone and called 911. Soon, the police and ambulance arrived.

Melanie and Leo were taken in for questioning, while Marcus was rushed to the ER. I never expected things to end like this.

In my past life, Marcus would have stopped after beating me up. But Leo, trying so hard to be a gentleman, had snapped under pressure and used deadly force.

Did my killer actually end up ruined this easily? My feelings were complicated. Honestly, the moment I was reborn, my only thought was revenge.

But before I could even plot anything, Marcus was already taken off the board. A few days later, the hospital report came out. Marcus didn't die, nor was he in a coma.

But he was partially paralyzed. His left side was severely damaged, leaving him with a permanent limp and slurred speech. He looked like a shell of his former self.

And because Leo’s family was poor, that one brick shattered his college dreams.

He had to drop out of school and take a job at a local warehouse just to pay off Marcus’s mounting medical bills. Meanwhile, Melanie went back to her normal life.

But her attitude toward me had completely changed. "You did that on purpose, didn't you?" Melanie confronted me in the hallway.

Lately, she had been suspicious that my refusal to walk her out that day was a calculated move. "I told you, it was a coincidence.

What does any of this have to do with me?" I replied dryly. "You never used to refuse me. Why did you suddenly change that day?

And Leo just happened to have a brick right next to him?

You knew what would happen!" She paused, looking at me with a selfsatisfied expression, as if she had cracked a criminal mastermind's code. "Ethan, you're so manipulative!

You planned all of this, didn't you? A double kill to get rid of both of my suitors at once!" "What are you even talking about?

Get help," I said, rolling my eyes. "Fine, I get it, you have to deny it," Melanie said, her cheeks suddenly turning a shade of pink. "I've thought about it... and I decide to say yes to you." I froze for a second. "Yes to what?" "Stop playing dumb!

You proposed to me on Snapchat last week, and I said I'd think about it!" Melanie raised her chin, her tone incredibly condescending.
