Opening · Chapter 1
Five years after my sister Gemma and I swapped marriages, she died in an accident.
After Gemma passed away, my husband, Julian, brought home an AI robot that looked exactly like her.
The robot had Gemma’s habits, her memories, her hobbies, and would even whine in Julian’s arms just like she used to.
Even my tenyearold stepdaughter, Lily, whom I had raised for five years, constantly protected the robot.
Lily even gave the custom gown I had spent a month making to the robot, screaming at me: "Why are you so jealous?
Gemma is already dead!" Julian, too, slept with the Gemma robot in his arms every night, whispering, "After all these years, only you can cure my insomnia." They even forced me to stand by the bed and watch them be intimate, telling me to "learn the correct positions." It wasn’t until I caught the smug, mocking glint in the robot’s synthetic eyes that I realized—she didn’t just have Gemma’s memories.
She had Gemma’s malicious soul. But what they didn't know was that five years ago, it was Gemma who had forced the marriage swap by threatening suicide.
Yet, this father and daughter had hated me for five long years. Fine. If that was the case, I would correct the mistake. I was going to marry the man I was always meant to be with.
I stood frozen in the hallway. The bespoke gown I had spent an entire month handsewing for Julian’s birthday gala was now draped over the Gemma robot.
Anger flared in my chest, but Lily, the girl I had raised with all my heart, held the robot’s hand and gasped in awe. "Gemma, you look so beautiful in this dress!
No wonder Daddy has always loved you." "Unlike that other woman. She only knows how to steal things.
She tried to steal my dad, and she even tried to steal me." Hearing those words, my nails dug deep into my palms. Before Julian and I got married, Gemma was already pregnant.
Yet, she insisted on marrying my billionaire fiancé, Sebastian.
To hide the timeline of her pregnancy and cover up the scandal, Gemma wept to Julian, claiming I was the one who used dirty tricks to force her out.
In the minds of Julian and his daughter, I was the villain—the greedy sister who ignored Gemma’s pregnancy and forced Julian to marry me, leveraging my parents' guilt.
My heart ached for a split second, but I quickly snapped out of it. I looked at the robot and gave a cold command, "Take off my dress.
Now." But Lily pulled the robot’s hand and walked right past me into the banquet hall. "Attention, everyone!
This is my mom!" The Gemma robot stood gracefully in the center of the crowd, her eyes locking onto Julian, who was standing not far away. "Julian, honey, come on.
It's time for the family photo." Her eyes were ripe with artificial desire, mimicking human tenderness perfectly. Julian was clearly captivated.
He walked over and tightly gripped her hand. This was the first family photo our household had ever taken. But the leading lady wasn't me.
No one even remembered that I was the actual wife, the one who had kept this family together. I let out a selfdeprecating laugh and turned to leave.
But the robot called out behind me, "Jade, aren't you going to join the photo?
Are you too shy, or do you just not see us as family?" Only then did Julian look at me, his eyes freezing cold. "Stop acting. Haven't you been begging for a family photo for years?
Get over here." The surrounding guests, taking cues from Julian’s attitude, began to sneer at me. "So that’s the Miller girl who forced her way into Julian’s bed.
Looks like she’s living worse than a robot now." "I don't get her.
Why would she dump Sebastian for a man who doesn't even love her..." Hearing their mockery, my heart felt completely numb.
My biological parents, seeing that I wasn't moving, barked at me in front of everyone. "Jade! Get your ass over here right now! Stop embarrassing us!" Disgust boiled up inside me.
I slammed my wine glass onto the floor, shattered glass spraying everywhere.
I turned on my heel and walked away. "Being in the same photo as you people makes me sick." I walked out onto the bustling streets, the cold night air hitting my face as the bitterness finally overflowed.
My biological parents knew exactly why I was forced into this marriage.
Yet, they never said a single word to clear my name, letting me bear the reputation of a greedy, husbandstealing gold digger for five years. These five years of hell...
I would consider them payment for the debt of giving birth to me. My high heels were killing me. I kicked them off and walked barefoot, wandering aimlessly down the sidewalk.
A sudden car horn snapped me out of my thoughts. A sleek black Bentley pulled up beside me.
The window rolled down, revealing Sebastian—the man I was originally supposed to marry. "Get in," he said, his voice deep and calm. "Let's talk." Five years ago, Julian’s family business was on the brink of bankruptcy.
Gemma set her sights on my wealthy fiancé, Sebastian, and forced our parents to coerce me into breaking off my engagement so she could marry him instead.
Because of that, I had always felt a deep sense of guilt toward Sebastian. "Is there something you need, Sebastian?" I climbed into the passenger seat, trying my best to hide my misery.
But Sebastian saw right through me. "You don't have to force a smile if you're unhappy," he said softly. "I came today to correct a mistake made five years ago. Marry me, Jade.
Let's make the Millers and the Vances pay for what they did." "Jade, you were always meant to be my wife, weren't you?" I looked at Sebastian.
There was a gentle, unwavering light in his eyes. Five years ago, when we were arranged to be married, I had genuinely agreed.
Not for money, but because during our brief time together, I had truly fallen in love with him. "Yes," I whispered. "I will."
Opening · Chapter 2
Hearing my answer, Sebastian let out a long breath. A victorious, boyish smile spread across his face.
He took me to a quiet dinner and insisted that I move out of Julian’s house immediately. I couldn't argue with him, so I promised I would pack my things and deal with Julian and Lily as soon as possible.
Sebastian reluctantly dropped me off at the Vance mansion. The moment I stepped through the door, I saw the three of them laughing and playing on the living room sofa.
Lily saw me first. Despite her young age, she snapped at me with absolute authority, completely ignoring my pale face. "Jade! Where the hell have you been? You're so late! Who's supposed to run my bath and tuck me in?"
Since I was the one who raised Lily, her nighttime routine had always been my job. Without me, she couldn't sleep.
But she never acknowledged my effort. She only called me "mom" in her sleep when she held my hand, which was the only thing that had kept me going all these years.
I had been so stupid. Why did I give my heart to someone else's ungrateful child?
"Go ask your new mom to do it," I said coldly. "I don't know how, and I don't want to do it anymore."
Ignoring their shocked faces, I turned to walk upstairs. As expected, the Gemma robot began her act. Her voice dripped with artificial hurt.
"Oh, sweetie, let mommy do those dirty chores. It's only natural that Jade doesn't want to do them. No stranger can ever love another woman's child. I understand."
Lily’s heart ached for the robot. She immediately waved her hands. "It's okay, Gemma! I can do it myself. You and Daddy should go rest."
The robot smiled with satisfaction and threw herself into Julian’s arms. "Julian, our daughter is so mature. You raised her so well."
The two of them began nuzzling each other, their breathing growing heavy right there on the sofa. Listening to Julian’s ragged breaths, I felt a wave of disgust for my past self. Five years ago, I used my own inheritance and savings to save the Vance family from ruin. I poured my soul into taking care of his daughter. Yet, I received not a shred of genuine affection in return. And to think, I actually thought he had loved me at some point...
I dragged my suitcase into the guest bedroom. Just as I was about to drift off to sleep, the door was violently kicked open. Julian dragged me out of bed.
Standing behind him was the Gemma robot, completely naked.
"Jade," Julian sneered. "Tonight, Gemma and I are going to consummate our marriage. You stand right here and watch. Learn some positions. Stop acting like a dead fish in bed, it ruins my appetite."
Without waiting for a response, he pulled the robot into a passionate kiss. Their faces flushed as they tangled together.
Even though she was just a machine, Julian didn't care. He even reached back and toggled the "emotional sensitivity switch" on her spine—a feature designed to make the robot mimic human arousal.
The robot’s synthetic skin softened immediately, her body pliant and eager beneath his.
Pain and disgust warred in my chest. I loathed myself for ever loving this monster. I pulled out my phone and started recording them, wanting to document their degeneracy. But the sheer nausea of the sight overcame me. I bent over and vomited right onto Julian’s back.
The passion in Julian’s eyes died instantly, replaced by pure rage. "I underestimated you, Jade! To keep me from touching Gemma, you actually forced yourself to throw up? Everyone knows you're obsessed with me. Why play hard to get now?"
I was too weak from vomiting to argue. "If you're so disgusted, go clean yourself up. I won't touch your precious doll."
He snarled and stormed into the bathroom to wash off. On the bed, the Gemma robot stared at me, her synthetic eyes filled with calculated malice. "Don't get cocky. I will make sure Julian belongs to me forever."
Without putting on any clothes, she ran into the bathroom after him. A moment later, Julian’s voice echoed out. "Your joints can't take water damage. Get out."
I used the distraction to search the room. I found the instruction manual and purchase receipt for the Gemma robot. That was when I realized—this AI didn't just have Gemma’s memories. It was programmed to analyze data based on Gemma’s psychological profile, meaning she would execute any scheme the real Gemma would have thought of.
Julian had certainly gone to great lengths to find such a perfect clone.
Opening · Chapter 3
While Julian was scrubbing himself in the shower and the robot was busy playing victim, I ran to another guest room and locked the door from the inside.
Julian banged on the door after his shower, yelling threats. "If you don't open this door right now, you can forget about us registering our marriage! I will never make you my legal wife!"
Yes. For five years, Julian and I had only had a wedding ceremony. We had never actually signed a marriage license.
Back then, I had promised my foster mother on her deathbed that I wouldn't leave Julian, that I would pay back the Vance family's kindness.
Under my care, Julian’s business rose from the ashes, and Lily grew attached to me.
A few weeks ago, Julian had actually proposed to me, promising we would go to the courthouse to make it official.
At the time, I thought my patience had finally paid off. But Gemma's sudden death changed everything. It forced me to see Julian and Lily for what they really were: abusers who only wanted to keep me around as a free, livein nanny.
My phone buzzed. It was Sebastian on Snapchat.
We had agreed to meet at the courthouse tomorrow morning to get married. He didn't ask for explanations, but he had still prepared a beautiful proposal for me.
"Jade, in the five years I was married to Gemma, I only saw her twice. After I found out she gave birth to another man's child, I never set foot in that house again."
I wanted to tell him he didn't need to explain, but his next words held me spellbound.
"If my bride isn't you, then a political marriage is just business. I regret tolerating Gemma for five years. But most of all... I regret not seeing through your pain back then and stealing you away."
"I don't care if you think I'm ruthless. When Gemma was in the ICU, I offered the Millers three massive business contracts. In exchange, they signed her DNR."
I reached out and squeezed his hand, repeating, "I want to marry you, Sebastian."
"So... wifey," Sebastian said, a faint blush creeping up his neck. "When are you moving out of the Vance house?"
I pretended not to notice how cute he looked. "Since my husband demands it, how about I pack up and move out tonight?"
I pinched his red ear playfully and got out of the car.
When I returned to the Vance house, it was eerily quiet. I wanted to quickly grab my documents and leave, but the moment I stepped into my room, the door slammed shut and locked from the outside.
A cold dread washed over me. I quickly sent a Snapchat SOS to Sebastian, but a second later, Julian slapped the phone out of my hand.
"Jade," Julian whispered, his eyes wild. "Gemma feels cold. Her synthetic body isn't warm enough... she needs some of your blood."
"Don't worry. It won't be much. Just 2000ml. Just enough to fill her internal heating tubes."
My heart stopped. 2000ml? That was practically a death sentence. I thrashed wildly. "Julian! You can use synthetic fluids! Why does it have to be my blood?!"
The Gemma robot lay on the bed, her voice filled with synthesized excitement. "You don't understand, Jade. Julian wanted to use artificial blood, but I told him it felt too fake. We're family, after all. Your blood is perfect."
Julian’s face was dead serious. He gestured, and two burly men walked in, pinning me to the bed. Julian himself picked up a thick IV needle.
"I'm sorry, Jade. Just this once. Once we do this, we'll go to the courthouse. The four of us will live happily ever after."
I almost laughed at his sheer insanity. Tears of terror streamed down my face. I prayed to God that Sebastian would get here in time.
"Julian, stop! I don't want to get married anymore! Just let me go! This much blood will kill me!"
As I saw my dark red blood begin to flow through the tube into a plastic bag, I panicked. I saw Lily peeking through the cracked door. "Lily! I raised you since you were a toddler! Please, help me! Call the police!"
Lily flinched, her eyes darting away guiltily. "But... that blood is for my mom. You stole her life, Jade. You owe her this."
My vision began to blur as the bag filled.
But then, the front door was kicked open with a thunderous crash. Lily was knocked to the floor as a figure stormed up the stairs.
"Jade!" Sebastian’s voice roared through the house.
I wondered faintly why he called me Jade, but my brain was too oxygendeprived to think.
Sebastian had brought the police. He burst into the room, and the sight of me strapped to the bed, being drained of blood, made him lose all control. He flew across the room and slammed his fist directly into Julian’s face.
"How dare you touch her!" Sebastian screamed.
Julian spat out blood and fought back. "Who the hell are you? What I do to Jade is my family's business!"
"She is my legal wife!" Sebastian roared.
Opening · Chapter 4
Sebastian snatched our marriage certificate from his coat pocket and slammed it onto Julian’s bleeding face.
"We registered this morning. What you are doing is attempted murder." Sebastian cracked his knuckles and landed another brutal punch on Julian’s jaw.
Julian stared at him in utter disbelief. With trembling hands, he picked up the certificate, tearing the protective plastic cover in his haste to read the names.
Tears welled in his eyes. "No... Jade loves me! I don't believe this! She was the one who begged to marry me five years ago! I promised her we’d get married for real after this!"
Sebastian wasn't about to let the broken man off easy. He sneered, "If you have time to be this delusional, why don't you extract the data from your precious robot? See for yourself if Jade was really the one who forced this marriage."
Julian slowly turned his head to look at the deactivated Gemma robot. His face grew incredibly pale. He was terrified of what he might find.
The police officers Sebastian brought stepped forward, presenting their badges. "Julian Vance, you are under arrest for kidnapping and aggravated assault. Come with us."
Lily, who had been huddled on the floor, finally burst into hysterical tears. The fiveyearold was sobbing, completely abandoned. She tried to grab Julian’s leg, but the officers pushed her back.
In desperation, she ran to the deactivated robot, shaking her violently. "Mom! Wake up! They're taking Daddy away!"
Sebastian looked at me on the gurney as the paramedics administered emergency fluids. His eyes were burning with rage. He turned to a tech specialist he had brought along. "Extract the memory bank of this unit. Show us the files from five years ago."
The technician quickly connected a device to the port on the robot’s neck. He looked up for confirmation, and Sebastian nodded, walking over to squeeze my hand.
The assistant turned on a portable projector, casting the extracted memories onto the bedroom wall.
The first clip played.
It was Gemma. After a date with Julian, she had gone straight into the arms of another man—a tall, muscular guy who sneered, "Isn't your fiancé's family supposed to be rich? Why are you so needy? Is Julian bad in bed?"
Gemma wrapped her arms around him, frowning. "The Vance family’s latest project failed. They're on the verge of bankruptcy. I'm not marrying Julian to live in poverty. But I also don't want that bitch Jade to have a better life than me."
"I'll convince my parents to force Jade to marry that loser Julian instead."
Julian watched the screen, his jaw slack. He stopped resisting the police, sinking to the floor like a hollow shell as the handcuffs clicked around his wrists.
The second clip was set in the Miller family home.
I shuddered at the memory, but Sebastian held my hand tighter, offering silent comfort.
On screen, Gemma threw a pair of men's underwear onto the floor, weeping dramatically. "If Jade loves Julian, I can step aside. But she shouldn't have stolen my future brotherinlaw's underwear!"
Our mother didn't hesitate. She slapped me across the face twice, her eyes filled with disgust. "Is this how your foster parents raised you? You shameless brat! Tomorrow, you will tell Sebastian you're calling off the wedding!"
On screen, my face was bruised, but I still pleaded, "I want to marry Sebastian. I didn't steal anything. I don't even like Julian!"
"Kneel!" our father roared, whipping me with a leather belt. "I didn't give birth to you so you could disrespect us!"
In the end, our mother threatened my foster parents' lives. "If you ruin Gemma’s future, your peasant foster parents can forget about getting their cancer treatments in the city!"
If the previous clips had broken Julian, the next one utterly destroyed him.
