Opening · Chapter 1
On our wedding day, my wife, Vivian Sterling, suddenly frowned, her body trembling slightly.
That night, I received a mocking text from her ex, Ryan Vance: "Your wife's expression at the wedding was priceless.
She was wearing the remotecontrol toy I put inside her." When I found out the truth, I slapped her and demanded a divorce.
Vivian fell to her knees, sobbing and begging: "You're the only one I love, Ethan. I swear I'll cut him off forever.
Please, just give me one more chance." Seeing her tears and seeming sincerity, I forgave her. Seven years later, we were finally expecting our first child.
On the day of her prenatal checkup, I went to the hospital to pick her up. But just as I reached the door of the clinic, I saw her exboyfriend, Ryan.
Ryan was anxiously asking the OBGYN: "My wife had a vaginoplasty done down there two years ago. Will there be any complications when she gives birth?" My heart stopped.
Ryan brushed past me without even giving me a glance. I took a deep breath, telling myself I was being paranoid. It had to be a coincidence.
After all, seven years had passed, and everyone had moved on with their lives. Just like Vivian and me—we were finally going to have our own baby.
Thinking of how Vivian had cared for me so unconditionally over the past seven years, a faint smile played on my lips. She had just made a mistake back then.
I needed to trust her more. Suddenly, a familiar female voice echoed down the hall. "Babe! Why did you buy me so much stuff again?" It was Vivian. Her voice was bubbling with joy.
My eyes lit up. Clutches of fresh flowers in my hand, I quickened my pace. But just as I was about to call her name, I realized Vivian wasn't looking in my direction at all.
Ryan pulled her into his arms, gently stroking her pregnant belly as he handed her a cup of cheap, storebought juice. "You've been doing checkups all morning, Vivian.
Drink some juice.
You must be tired." Vivian took the juice with a beaming smile, her eyes curving with happiness. "You spoil me so much, sweetheart." My wrist felt heavy holding the flowers.
Just two weeks ago, I had lined up for an hour in the freezing cold just to buy Vivian her favorite organic, highend coldpressed juice.
But when I presented it to her like a proud puppy, she hadn't even looked up. "Ethan, can you do some basic research?
Pregnant women can't just drink anything." At the time, I thought it was just pregnancy mood swings. I never expected that she was saving her sweet side for someone else.
Suddenly, Vivian noticed me. I was wearing a cartoon mascot mask, holding the bouquet. "Look, babe!
That's my favorite cartoon character!" Ryan noticed me too and walked over with large strides.
Stopping in front of me, he pulled out a hundreddollar bill and waved it in front of my face. "I don't care who you're waiting for. Give this bouquet to my wife.
If you make her happy, this hundred is yours." A hundred dollars was pocket change to Vivian, the billionaire CEO of Sterling Enterprises.
But now, looking at Ryan playing the big spender, Vivian's eyes shone with the excitement of a teenage girl in love. I looked at Vivian's slightly swollen belly, then at Ryan.
They looked like a perfect family of three. Under Vivian's expectant gaze, I spoke in a cold, flat voice. "No."
Opening · Chapter 2
Through the mask, my voice sounded muffled. Feeling humiliated, Ryan's face turned ugly. He lunged forward to grab the flowers.
I held on tight, and the petals scattered all over the floor in the struggle. Vivian looked uncomfortable and grabbed Ryan's hand. "Hey... forget it." But Ryan was fired up.
He punched me hard in the stomach. "Fuck! Do you know who you're looking at? This is Vivian Sterling, the richest woman in New York!
Who the hell do you think you are?!" His punch was brutal. I crashed to the floor, my head slamming hard against the corner of the wall.
Vivian gasped, but Ryan rushed over, snatched the ruined flowers from my hand, and shoved them into her arms. In my daze, memories of the past seven years flashed before my eyes.
On our wedding day, that toy had slipped out of Vivian's dress on the red carpet. The paparazzi went wild, their flashes blinding me.
Still, I used my own body to shield Vivian from the cameras.
When the media stormed us with vicious rumors, I looked Vivian in the eye, asking her over and over if it was just a misunderstanding.
She bit her lip, tears streaming down her face. But Ryan chose that exact moment to do a media interview. "That toy is mine.
I don't care how powerful the CEO of Sterling Enterprises is—she's mine in bed! That pretty boy she married is useless.
He can't satisfy her at all." Ryan was just a lowlife security guard at Sterling Enterprises—lazy, vulgar, and utterly disgusting.
Overnight, I became the biggest laughingstock in New York's high society. I had been a model for years, seen the worst of humanity, and never believed in love.
Until Vivian came along. Despite our massive difference in status, she never looked down on me.
She pursued me relentlessly, eventually winning me over with what I thought was pure devotion. I thought I had found true love. I loved her with everything I had.
But Vivian had never stopped her dirty affair with Ryan. After the wedding scandal, I fell into a severe depression.
For my sake, Vivian called Ryan right in front of me and told him to never show his face again. She knelt before me, crying and begging. "I broke up with him, Ethan.
For you, I'll do anything." I had barely managed to force a smile back then. Now, a crowd was starting to gather in the hospital corridor.
Vivian grabbed Ryan's arm nervously. "Let's go. If someone takes a video and Ethan sees it..." At the mention of my name, Ryan's anger flared.
He spat on me and kicked me in the ribs. "Fuck Ethan! It's been seven years! Why can't I be with you in public?!" "Let them record!
Let the whole of New York know we've been together this whole time!" Then, Ryan's eyes locked onto Vivian's belly. His eyes turned red. "Vivian, this baby is mine, right?
If it's that pretty boy's, I'm taking you to get an abortion right now." Vivian covered her stomach, whispering nervously, "You know I take the morningafter pill every time I have to sleep with him..." Hearing this, Ryan smiled with satisfaction. "Good.
Divorce him. He's useless to your career anyway. Look at me—I closed several massive deals for you last year using your name.
The man beside you should be someone like me." My fists clenched as I stared at Vivian's belly.
For seven years, she had kept him as her secret lover and even let him interfere with her company's business.
And the baby—the child I thought was the start of our new life—wasn't even mine. Ryan grabbed Vivian's hand and found her phone. "Call him. Tell him you want a divorce."
Opening · Chapter 3
Watching Ryan's arrogant face, I lost all control. I pushed myself up and slammed my body into him with all my remaining strength.
Vivian's phone flew out of her hand and shattered on the ground. Ryan reacted quickly. He threw a heavy punch, knocking me down instantly.
Years of taking heavy antidepressants had left me weak and reclusive. I was no match for Ryan. He rained punches down on my face.
The cartoon mask shattered, the sharp plastic shards slicing deep into my skin. In seconds, my face was a bloody mess.
Even if I took off the mask now, Vivian wouldn't be able to recognize me. But Ryan didn't stop. He was venting seven years of jealousy and rage onto me. "What?
You think you can challenge me?!" "I've stayed in the shadows for seven years!
I was looking for a way to make my name known!" "Even if I beat you to death today, it'll only make me famous. I won't lose a thing!" My consciousness began to fade.
The taste of blood filled my mouth. I felt several teeth break loose, and I swallowed them with the blood. Vivian screamed for him to stop, but Ryan ignored her.
Suddenly, hospital security guards broke through the crowd, shouting, "Stop! Step back!" Ryan finally let go of my collar.
He casually smoothed his sleeves and pulled Vivian into his arms. "This is Vivian Sterling, your boss.
And in case you don't know me, I am her future husband, Ryan Vance." Since this hospital belonged to Vivian's corporation, everyone knew her husband was Ethan, not Ryan.
With plastic shards cutting my tongue, I couldn't make a sound. I weakly reached out a hand, begging the guards for help. The security guards knew me.
During my worst depressive episodes, I had been in and out of this hospital. They used to look at me with sympathy and pity. "Mr. Sterling, Ms. Sterling loves you so much.
You have to stay strong, or she'll fall apart." With their support back then, I had slowly dragged myself out of the dark. I desperately hoped they would recognize me now.
Instead, the security captain immediately put on a flattering smile for Ryan. "Mr. Vance! I'm so sorry, I didn't recognize you.
I shouldn't have interfered." Then, he lowered his voice, whispering to Ryan, "By the way, Mr. Vance... I heard that Ethan guy is basically a walking corpse now. Are you and Ms.
Sterling finally tying the knot?" Ryan raised his chin proudly. "Within six months, I'll have Ethan thrown out of the Sterling estate." The guard showered him with congratulations.
Then, he looked down at me, coughing blood on the floor, with utter disgust. "Selling fake products in our hospital and getting a welldeserved lesson from Mr.
Vance." "Throw him out. Don't let him ruin Ms. Sterling's mood." Several guards dragged me up, completely ignoring the blood dripping from my face.
My phone slipped out of my pocket and landed in a puddle of blood, unnoticed. I reached out weakly, trying to grab Vivian's hem, wanting her to look at me. To see who I was.
But before I could touch her, Ryan kicked my hand away. I coughed up a mouthful of dark blood, staining the polished floor.
The guards threw me out of the glass doors onto the concrete. "Get lost!
If we see you here again, we'll beat you half to death!" I dragged myself up, swaying on my feet as I walked away from the hospital.
Leaving a trail of blood behind me with every step. ... Inside the hospital, Ryan took Vivian's hand. "This is going to hit the news by this afternoon anyway.
Let's use this chance to call Ethan and demand a divorce." Vivian took a deep breath, preparing herself, and dialed Ethan's number. Suddenly, a familiar ringtone echoed nearby.
Vivian froze. Because the sound was coming from right next to her. She followed the sound and saw a phone lying in the pool of blood where the "mascot" had been beaten.
The screen was flashing in the blood. The caller ID read: "Wife." Vivian pushed Ryan away, her body stiffening as she picked up the bloody phone.
She started shaking violently, her face turning pale as a sheet. "No... No... This can't be..." Ryan's face paled too, but he tried to play it cool. "How could that be Ethan?
He's always locked up at home. He never goes out." Vivian shoved Ryan to the floor and ran frantically toward the hospital entrance.
Suddenly, she fell to her knees, clutching her head, and let out a bloodcurdling scream. "No!!!"

Seven years later, at her prenatal checkup, I saw Ryan asking the doctor about her vaginoplasty. My heart stopped. Then Vivian called him “babe.” She was glowing for him, not me. The same woman who trashed my cold-pressed juice was sipping cheap store-bought juice from his hand. I wore a mascot mask, holding flowers he tried to buy from me. He punched me to the ground. Now I’m bleeding, remembering it all—the affair never stopped. I’m done forgiving.
