Opening · Chapter 1

I am Valerie. My sister is Vivian. We are identical twins. She was the golden child. She got into the most prestigious elite university in the city. I was the black sheep.

I got into too many street fights, so my parents sent me away to my grandfather’s remote ranch in Montana. But on her seventh day at college, the school called. Vivian had vanished.

My parents rushed to the campus, panicked. But the school washed their hands of it. They said Vivian was an adult.

They even mocked her, saying a quiet freak with severe social anxiety didn't belong in a toptier school anyway. My dad snapped.

That night, he drove all the way to Montana to bring me back. He told me, this time, he wouldn’t stop me from being the monster I was.

When I got the news of Vivian's disappearance, I was out in the woods with a bunch of local guys, hunting wild rabbits.

The next thing I knew, I saw my dad standing under a massive pine tree, looking completely broken. His eyes were sunken, stained with tears.

Seeing me was like a drowning man catching a liferaft. "Valerie, please. Come home with me," he begged. His voice shook. He looked like he had used up every ounce of his strength.

Seeing him like that made my heart ache. Vivian and I are identical twins. We share the same beautiful face, but our personalities are night and day.

She was the smart, sweet, perfect girl. But she was too quiet. She kept to herself and hated the outside world. Me? I had a vicious temper.

I fought with older boys and almost killed a few. I was a headache for my parents, which was why they shipped me off to Montana. Vivian and I barely saw each other.

But we were closer than anyone knew. We Snapchated every day. We FaceTimeed, sharing our dreams for the future. So, the second I heard she was gone, I didn’t hesitate.

I packed my bags and went back with my dad. The moment I stepped into our house, I went straight to our old room. Everything was neat.

The matching Hello Kitty sheets on our bunk beds were still clean and fresh. My dad said the last time Vivian called was the night before our birthday. Her voice had been raspy.

She cried and begged them to take her home. She said she couldn't take the pressure anymore. She hated the toxic environment. She just wanted to be back with Mom and Dad.

My parents thought it was just her usual social anxiety kicking in because of the new environment. Vivian had always been fragile and timid. She had barely any friends.

My dad had comforted her over the phone. He told her to focus on her classes and promised they would visit soon.

But when they arrived at the campus, the advisor told them Vivian had disappeared. My dad lost his mind. He searched every dorm and corner of the school.

Even when the police came, they found nothing. In a fit of rage, my dad confronted her academic advisor, Mr. Davis. He demanded to know why the school hadn't notified them sooner.

But Mr. Davis just shrugged. He said Vivian was an adult and they weren't responsible.

He even sneered, saying a girl with such a fragile, defective personality didn't deserve to be in a prestigious school anyway. My dad wanted to beat him to death right there.

But he held back. He didn't believe Vivian just ran away. He knew the school was hiding something. So, at that moment, he decided to bring me—the wild, dangerous twin—back.

My dad handed me a crumpled notebook. It was Vivian’s diary. He had found it in her dorm room before he left.

I gripped the worn notebook, tears streaming down my face. "Don't worry, Dad. I’ll get justice for Vivian."

Opening · Chapter 2

The next day, I styled my hair, put on Vivian’s clothes, and walked onto the campus. The moment I entered the classroom, everyone stared at me with weird expressions.

Especially two redhaired girls sitting by the window. Their eyes locked onto me, filled with a twisted mix of shock and malice.

I lowered my head, copying Vivian’s timid posture, and walked to a seat.

But before my butt could even touch the chair, one of the redheads grabbed my hair from behind. "You bitch." She leaned in, her lips brushing my ear, and shoved me hard. "Didn't I tell you to never show your face in front of me again?!" Her grip tightened.

My throat closed up, and my face turned red. She didn’t let go. Instead, she stroked my cheek with her other hand. It felt like a cold snake slithering across my skin.

Then, without warning, she slammed me forward. I couldn't react in time. My forehead crashed hard against the brick wall. The surrounding students quickly looked down.

Nobody wanted to get involved. Blood started trickling down my temple. I looked up at the redhead. A mocking smirk plastered her face.

Her eyes said: You can't escape me. The other redhead grabbed my hair, pouring a bottle of icecold water over my head. She laughed like a lunatic.

It made my ears ring. "You bitch. Why do you get the best dorm room? Why do you get free meals and the best scholarship? Huh? Just because you have a pretty face?

And what was that disappearing act? You just wanted attention, didn't you?!" The girl speaking was Megan. Every word she threw at me felt like a knife.

Rage burned hot in my chest, like a million fire ants eating me alive. But I couldn't fight back yet. Not until I found out what happened to Vivian. I had to play the victim.

I looked at the leader, Chloe. She had a perfect, sharp face and pale skin. But her eyes were pure evil.

She pinched my chin, lifting my face. "Believe me," she whispered, "I could ruin your life in a second if I wanted to." She raised her hand to slap me, but the sharp click of high heels in the hallway stopped her.

The onlookers quickly dispersed. Chloe let go of my face and sat back in her seat. The classroom went dead silent. I slowly dragged myself up from the floor.

As soon as I stood, I locked eyes with the female professor walking in. Her face was cold and indifferent. She scanned the room, then looked at me. "Sit down," she said coldly.

I kept my head down and walked back to my seat. Strangely, both Chloe and Megan had lost their arrogance. They sat there, behaving like perfect students. After class, I ran into Mr.

Davis, the academic advisor, in the hallway. When he saw me, his face went pale. He dropped his coffee mug, completely frozen. I picked up the mug and walked over to him. "Mr.

Davis, you dropped this." He stared at me, his eyes filled with sheer terror.

It took him a long time to grab the cup. "You... how are you here?" "Me?" I smiled sweetly. "Where else would I be?" He swallowed hard, nervously adjusting his glasses. "No... nothing." Then he turned and practically ran away.

I watched him look back over his shoulder three times. I quietly followed him.

Opening · Chapter 3

But before I could take five steps, Chloe and Megan dragged me from behind. They covered my mouth, grabbed my hair, and pulled me into the girls' bathroom.

The students in the hallway looked away, pretending they saw nothing. Chloe slammed my head against the edge of a toilet bowl. I gasped for air in the cramped stall.

Chloe locked the main door. Megan pulled a rope and duct tape out of her bag and tied me up. They shoved my head into the toilet and flushed it.

The cold water made my brain go numb. Megan burst out laughing. "Aren't you the Dean’s little pet? Call him to save you! Go on!

Hahaha!" Chloe had her fun, then pulled me up by my hair, tying me tightly to the toilet seat. "Who do you think you are? You think you're pretty? No, you're not.

I'm the prettiest one here! Me!" She slapped me across the face. My cheek burned. I lay on the floor.

Megan’s words echoed in my head: The Dean’s little pet. Did Vivian get that scholarship because of her looks? What did they do to her? Suddenly, a sharp pain shot through my back.

I looked back. Megan was stomping her boot onto my spine. "Do you want to get up? Beg me!" Seeing her smug face, I yanked my arms. The cheap rope snapped.

I lunged forward and slammed my body into her. She flew back and crashed onto the tiled floor, utterly shocked. Chloe froze, too. She didn't expect "Vivian" to fight back.

She lunged forward, raising her hand to hit me again. I dodged easily. She hit empty air. "You bitch! You dare dodge me?!" They both glared at me, closing in slowly.

I grabbed a dirty mop resting by the corner, dripping with toilet water. Chloe took a step back.

Megan stopped in her tracks. "You better not... otherwise, I will make your life hell!" Megan threatened, her eyes wild. But I wasn't the sweet Vivian.

I swung the wet, filthy mop right into Chloe's face. She screamed bloody murder. Megan shrieked in terror. I kept swinging until they both bolted out of the bathroom, crying.

I finally put the mop down.

Opening · Chapter 4

I was soaked and shivering, but the physical pain was nothing compared to the anger in my chest. I replayed their expressions in my mind. Especially Mr.

Davis's reaction: How are you here? I pulled out a cigarette and lit it. For some reason, whenever I felt like going on a killing spree, I needed a smoke.

It was an instinct I couldn't control. I stayed in the bathroom until sunset. My clothes had dried on my skin. I finally walked out and headed toward the faculty building.

I timed it perfectly. I followed Mr. Davis right after his last meeting. Based on his reaction earlier, he definitely knew Vivian. He knew where she was.

The campus streetlights flickered. A light rain was falling, and the paths were empty. Mr. Davis walked quickly under his umbrella, looking around suspiciously.

It confirmed my suspicion. I followed him stealthily. Back in Montana, I used to hunt wild animals. Tracking a clumsy, nervous man was child's play.

He led me to the abandoned science labs at the edge of campus. He checked his surroundings, then pulled out a key to unlock the door. I hid behind a pillar.

The moment he pushed the door open, I lunged forward and brought a heavy wooden branch down on the back of his head. He crumpled to the ground. I dragged him inside.

The window locks were broken, so I climbed through, locked the main door from the inside, and slipped back in. I had to be careful; security guards occasionally patrolled this area.

I turned on my phone’s flashlight. The room was thick with dust. Old, rusty lab equipment was scattered everywhere. But one door in the back was tightly locked.

It looked like it was hiding something dark. I glanced at the unconscious Mr. Davis, took his keys, and made sure he wouldn't wake up anytime soon.

Then, gripping a metal pipe, I unlocked the inner door. The moment I stepped inside, my world shattered.

Opening · Chapter 5

Under the faint light of my phone, I saw the face I had missed for months. "Vivian..." My voice shook. I ran over and threw my arms around her. Her skin was icecold.

I kept shaking her, calling her name. But she didn't move. She was dead. I held her body. I couldn't even cry out loud. Why? Why did we have to meet like this after six months?

I touched her pale, hollow cheek. "Open your eyes. Look at me, please!" I was shaking violently. But she would never speak to me again.

The sister who shared my face was gone forever. Why? Why?! I knelt beside her, tears streaming down my face. I held her cold, stiff body, whispering her name over and over.

I cried until my throat was raw and my heart felt like it was tearing apart. Finally, I let go. I wiped my tears and lifted her up.

Under the pouring rain, I carried Vivian's body into the deep woods behind the campus. I don't know how long I walked. I just walked until my legs gave out.

I leaned against a massive oak tree and laid her down gently. "Vivian, let's stay here.

We don't have to run anymore." By the time I walked back to the dorms, the sun hadn't risen yet. I cleaned the mud off my boots and walked into my sister's room.

When I pushed the door open, the room was a mess. Most of Vivian's things were gone. Even her mattress had been flipped over, leaving only a thin sheet.

I looked around and finally understood what Chloe meant. The other rooms had four beds. This one only had one luxurious queen bed.

Even though the desk and closet were ransacked, it was clear Vivian had been given "special treatment." I lay on the empty bed, Vivian's sweet smile flashing in my mind.

I felt her loneliness. I felt her despair. But I couldn't help her anymore. I couldn't even tell our dad that his favorite daughter was dead.

I closed my eyes, trying to calm my racing heart. Suddenly, the door was kicked open with a loud bang. Megan stormed in, dragging me off the bed.

She poked her finger hard into my chest. "You ignored my calls? You think you're tough now?!" She raised her hand and slapped me. Slap! Blood trickled from my lip. She hit hard.

My ears rang, and my cheek burned. Chloe watched from the doorway, smirking. "Are you scared now? Kneel and beg me.

Maybe I'll let you go if I'm in a good mood." She gestured with her finger, looking at me like I was dirt.

When I didn't move, Megan grabbed a bottle of red ink from the desk and poured it all over my clothes. The red liquid stained my shirt, looking like fresh blood. "Kneel!

I said kneel!" Students gathered in the hallway, whispering. Some laughed; some looked away in fear. Megan got even more excited.

She pulled out her phone, recording me while pushing my head down.

Chloe’s words sounded like a curse, reminding me of Vivian's last moments of despair. "Trash like you shouldn't even be alive." She grabbed my shoulders, her eyes filled with deep hatred. "Kneel down!

Kneel!" She shook me violently. I let myself sway, looking weak. But they wanted more. They shoved the phone right into my face, taking closeups.

They laughed. "What’s so pretty about this face anyway?" I let them play with me like a puppet.

Seeing that I still wouldn't bend, Chloe lost her patience and shoved me to the ground. "You whore. You think I won't ruin your face right now?!" She raised her hand to strike.

Slowly, calmly, I reached up and gripped her wrist.

Opening · Chapter 6

Both Megan and Chloe froze, staring at me in shock. I calmly looked at them, took out my pack of cigarettes, and lit one. I took a deep drag.

Megan snapped out of it, lunged forward, and snatched the cigarette, throwing it to the ground and stomping on it. Her eyes were still full of disdain. "Fuck you!

Who do you think you are, some kind of mob boss?

I'll—" Slap! I swung my hand and hit her hard. "You bitch, you dare—" Slap! Another one. "I'll kill you—" I slapped her four, five times in a row, until my palm burned.

I grabbed Megan by her hair, threw her to the ground, and pinned her down. Chloe shrank into the corner of the bed, her eyes wide with terror. My sudden violence terrified her.

She didn't dare make a sound. I didn't stop until Megan was completely knocked out, face down on the floor. Chloe was visibly shaking.

She tried to speak, but her teeth were chattering too hard. I didn't want to waste time. I grabbed her by her skirt and dragged her up.

Every ounce of pain and torture they put Vivian through, I was going to pay it back. Tenfold. Sweat poured down Chloe’s forehead. She kept screaming, "Help!

Help!" "Too loud," I muttered. I grabbed a dirty rag from the floor and stuffed it into her mouth. She whimpered and struggled, but she couldn't break my grip.

I dragged both of them into the bathroom. I turned on the shower, blasting cold water directly onto their faces. I slapped them hard, over and over.

Their muffled screams sounded exactly like the guys I used to beat up back in Montana. Megan woke up and fell to her knees, begging for mercy. But all I saw was Vivian.

What did Vivian look like when she was begging them? She must have been so terrified, so helpless. My face remained cold. My hands didn't stop.

Chloe lay on the wet floor, gasping for air. "We... we were wrong. Please... let us go..." "I can't hear you," I said coldly. "We were wrong!

We are so sorry!" Megan grabbed my pant leg, her voice trembling violently. I kicked her hand away. My eyes were colder than ice. "What happened to Vivian?"
