Opening · Chapter 1

When I called my best friend's husband, I was standing right outside the VIP booth, watching her shamelessly flirt with mine.

Inside the booth, Logan's toxic friends were betting on whether I'd divorce him. "No way Elena's divorcing him.

She can't even support herself without Logan!" "Honestly, with how pathetic and boring Elena is, it was only a matter of time before Logan cheated, right?" "Hey, Logan, did your wife throw a tantrum about the divorce yet?" My dear best friend, Chloe, was sitting on Logan's lap.

She giggled and planted a kiss on his lips. "My bet is on Elena staying.

If she leaves you, she'll starve to death." Logan smirked, stubbed out his cigarette, and suddenly pulled her into a deep, passionate kiss.

The booth instantly erupted into wild cheers and wolf whistles. My entire body trembled. I staggered back two steps. Logan had brought me here on purpose.

He wanted me to see my husband and my best friend hooking up with my own eyes. He wanted me to beg him to come back like a dog. But he didn't know one thing. Sure, I was weak.

I didn't dare to go in, but that didn't mean others wouldn't. I stood outside the door and dialed a number. It was Chloe's husband. "Chloe is drunk.

She's at The Velvet Room." "You should come and pick her up.

It looks like... she's in no condition to get home by herself." Chloe's husband, Austin, had once gone to prison for assault.

He was definitely braver than me. "Who is she drinking with?" On the other end of the line, Austin's voice was freezing cold. I replied immediately. "Just friends. All guys.

Things are getting a bit rowdy. You should get here fast." Austin muttered a quick okay and said he was on his way. I hung up, turned around, and walked away.

Chloe once boasted to me with a smug smile. "Austin looks like a simple, honest guy, but he almost killed a man for me back then." "Since then, he always keeps a pocket knife on him, just in case anyone tries to mess with me again." As soon as I reached the exit of the lounge, my phone rang.

It was Logan. His voice was casual and lazy. "You were just outside the booth, weren't you?" My lips parted, but I couldn't make a sound.

He spoke again. "Heard everything?" His voice was so gentle, yet so incredibly cruel to me. I let out a soft mumble. Logan laughed. "Loser." Yes, everyone knew I was a loser.

Back in high school, I did nothing but follow Logan around. The whole school mocked me for clinging to him. "No way.

You didn't even dare to walk in?" "That's so boring." The people around him started jeering, their mocking laughter loud and clear. Then, Chloe took the phone.

She giggled into the mic. "If I knew you were this terrified of losing him, we wouldn't have made the bet." "But seriously, hooking up with your husband is so thrilling." "I've tested his skills for you.

Not bad at all. We fit together perfectly." "Chloe, stop.

She's going to cry if you say any more." "Logan, aren't you going to comfort her?" As soon as Chloe finished speaking, the guys in the background chimed in again.

This time, Logan spoke with rare seriousness. "Stop messing around. If she cries, I'm the one who has to deal with it." "Elena is not like you. She's way easier to handle.

Don't bully her." With that, he took the phone back, and his voice became clearer. "Where are you? The restroom? I'll come find you.

It's hard to get an Uber around here." I looked down the hallway. I saw him holding his phone, freezing for a second. When he spotted me, he hung up.

The expression on Logan's face was pure satisfaction, with a hint of sadistic pleasure. He walked over to me and casually ruffled my hair. "She's different from you.

You are the legal Mrs. Logan. Why are you crying?" "Alright, I'm not going to divorce you." His tone was patronizing, filled with the kind of affection one would show a pet.

But right then, Chloe suddenly stumbled out of the booth, holding her head. She staggered and crashed straight into Logan's chest.

Logan instantly wrapped his arm around her waist, his palm pressing against her bare skin. Chloe rested her head against his chest and peeked at me. "Logan, my head hurts.

They made me drink too much." "Take me back. Elena is so openminded anyway." "She won't mind, right?" She looked at me, her eyes filled with blatant provocation.

Just then, my phone buzzed. It was a Snapchat message from Austin, asking for the address of the lounge. I sent him the location pin.

After sending the message, I looked up at Logan. "What if I do mind?" Logan looked slightly conflicted.

He tried to push her away, but Chloe clung to him like wet paint. "We've done it so many times.

Why act innocent now?" She laughed playfully, then looked back at me. "Didn't you say it yourself, Logan? Elena is like a dead fish in bed.

Total buzzkill!" She was speaking to Logan, but her eyes were locked onto mine.

Logan shot a nervous glance at me. "It was just a joke to tease her." My nails dug deep into my palms.

I let out a soft, flat sigh. "Then let's take her back together." "What did you say?" Chloe asked, unable to believe her ears.

Opening · Chapter 2

I looked up, staring firmly at them. "Doesn't she have a headache? Logan and I will take her back." I grabbed her arm, forcing her to lean on me.

Logan froze for a moment, then seemed amused by my reaction. He playfully pinched my nose. "Oh, so you're finally jealous?

It's good to see you have a little fire in you." His gesture and words were so intimate, as if nothing had happened. It disgusted me to my core.

But I showed absolutely nothing on my face. Back in high school, the school bully's girlfriend cornered me in the restroom and shredded my clothes.

I had this exact same expression back then. It was Logan who warned the girl to back off.

He had frowned at me for a long time, then took off his jacket and threw it over me. "You need to show some teeth." Later, that girl never showed up at school again.

Logan thought it was all thanks to him. He had no idea that the girl's father had caught her making out with the school bully in a motel room.

I was the one who tipped her father off. She was forced to transfer schools. Of course she couldn't bully me anymore.

I was more than happy to let Logan play the hero, so I never told him the truth. "But I booked a hotel room. Who said I was going home?" Chloe's voice suddenly chimed in.

She blinked, her eyes dripping with triumph. She looked at Logan again. "Don't you want to go, Logan?

But bringing Elena along seems a bit... inappropriate." Logan's eyes darted between the two of us.

Before he could speak, I spoke first. "Logan, come home with me." I stared at him, softening my tone.

Right in front of my face, Chloe wrapped her leg around his, staring at him intensely. "The lingerie you wanted me to wear last time? I brought it to the hotel.

If we miss tonight, I'm never wearing it." Logan's pupils dilated. The thrill in his eyes grew even stronger. "Elena, you go home first." Logan finally spoke to me.

I looked at him with watery eyes. "Are you sure?" He nodded, then frowned. "Be good. That is, if you don't want a divorce." I took a deep breath.

Every lungful of air felt like a stab to my chest. Chloe sneered. "What, do you want to stay and watch? That's too cruel for you, don't you think?" I remained silent.

She suddenly leaned in and whispered in my ear. "Do you know when our first time was?" "It was when you had that miscarriage.

While you were lying in that hospital bed, we were doing it right on your sheets." "Elena, if you know what's good for you, sign the divorce papers." My entire body began to shake.

That was my first baby with Logan. I had looked forward to it for so long, caring for myself so cautiously, but I still lost it.

During my hospital stay, Logan kept saying he was swamped with a business project. I had to pull through all of it alone. So... that was why.

I stared at Chloe. "Why would you do this?" "Logan makes good money, and he's hot. Men like him are a rare find." "Leaving him with you is just a waste.

Someone else would've snatched him anyway. Might as well be me." "As for my own husband, I've wanted to dump him for ages." I glanced at the time.

Austin should be here in ten minutes. "Will he just let you go? You said he has a terrible temper and almost killed someone.

Aren't you afraid?" Mentioning Austin made Chloe's tone turn dismissive. "He's just a meathead with no brains.

All I have to do is snap my fingers, and he'll do whatever I want." "At worst, I'll just trick him into a divorce.

He's just as gullible as you are." She spoke so casually, completely disregarding Austin. "What if he catches you cheating?" A flash of fear crossed Chloe's eyes, but it vanished quickly. "He'll never find out.

He's probably out delivering DoorDash right now." I sneered in my mind and quietly checked my phone. It was a Snapchat message from Austin: "I'm almost there."

Opening · Chapter 3

Suddenly, I didn't want to let them off so easily. I wanted to see how a rabid dog bites.

So, I looked at Logan with a pitiful, defeated expression. "I'll wait for you in the hotel lobby.

Will you come home with me after you're... done?" I acted so incredibly desperate that Logan's eyes flashed with surprise. "How are you so... are you really that obsessed with me?" Chloe immediately followed up. "Elena, how can you be so pathetic?" "After all this, you're still begging for scraps?

What is wrong with you?" I remained unfazed, acting as if she just didn't understand. "If it weren't for Logan back in college, I wouldn't even know how to survive." "He paid for my tuition and living expenses for four years, and he's been supporting me ever since." "Chloe, I can't live without him." Logan was indeed very good at making money.

He had tens of thousands in assets when he was only twenty, and made his first million in college. With him, I never had to worry about money.

That was how I managed to finish my master's and eventually get my PhD. Chloe was speechless, her face turning dark with frustration.

Logan glared at Chloe impatiently. "Don't talk to her like that." He continued, "I told you before, what happens between us shouldn't involve Elena." "And I'm never divorcing her to marry you.

Or do you have some other hidden agenda?" Chloe's expression shifted, and she quickly tried to smooth things over. "I didn't mean it like that.

I was just worried she'd ruin the mood." "I won't!" I shook my head. Logan let out a helpless sigh. "Alright, sweetie. This is the last time.

I'll treat you better from now on, okay?" I nodded with satisfaction. "Okay. I trust you." Logan's eyes softened slightly. "What would you ever do without me?" Without him?

I would inherit his entire estate, of course. We got into Logan's car, and Austin's message popped up again. "I'm here.

What booth are you guys in?" I looked up and saw a guy in a bright yellow windbreaker rushing into the lounge, only to be stopped by the security guards at the entrance.

Austin looked frantic and enraged, bordering on a total meltdown. I quickly texted him back: "I'm so sorry. Chloe drank way too much. I'm taking her to a hotel to sober up first.

Just meet us at the hotel." Only after sending the message did I look at Logan. "Do you really have to do this? Logan, I'm giving you one last chance.

Let's keep some dignity." Chloe sneered. "If you can't handle the heat, get out of the kitchen.

I thought you were supposed to be cool with this." Logan's face darkened too. "I already said this is the last time. Besides, can you even afford to leave me?" I mumbled, "Fine.

I won't make a scene." I caught a glimpse of my phone. It was Austin: "Thanks. I'll be there in twenty minutes." Logan drove fast.

We arrived at the hotel in fifteen minutes. "We're here. Want to come up and watch?

You can even try on my lingerie." "Though, I doubt you have the body to fill it out." Chloe taunted me again, her eyes sweeping over my chest.

I ignored her and looked at Logan. "I'll wait for you downstairs." "But I know the manager of this hotel.

Mind if I walk with you to the front desk to check in?" Logan looked touched for a split second. "You really have a strange way of showing love." I gave a bitter smile. "What can I do?

I love you too much." Logan sighed. "Let's go." Chloe wanted to say something else, but Logan glared her down. "Elena is still my wife.

I need to show her some respect in public." Chloe stamped her foot in anger but could only watch as Logan and I went to the front desk.

Opening · Chapter 4

I walked them to the elevator. The moment they stepped in, Chloe couldn't wait to throw herself into Logan's arms. I turned my head away, pretending to be heartbroken.

Only after confirming the elevator stopped on the 7th floor did I walk back to the front desk. "Could I get another key card, please?" "My husband just went up, and the elevator requires a card to access the floors." The receptionist immediately handed me another key card.

Just then, a panting Austin burst through the glass doors. Our eyes met. I forced a weak smile. "You're here? Perfect.

I just got a key card." I let out a heavy sigh. "Chloe just went up with my husband.

Let's go." Austin's face twisted in an instant. "Is it just Logan and her in the room?" Austin couldn't help but ask in the elevator. I looked completely clueless. "Yeah.

Chloe was making a huge fuss, insisting that Logan take her up." Austin's eyes narrowed, a deadly chill radiating from him. The elevator doors slid open.

He stormed out first, clutching the key card I had just handed him. I followed slowly, rummaging through my purse. I only stopped when I was about thirty feet behind him.

Austin swiped the card and threw the door open. In an instant, muffled moans drifted out. Then came a bloodcurdling shriek and a roaring scream.

By the time I ran over, pretending to be in absolute panic, Logan was already covered in blood, a massive stab wound in his abdomen.

He was clutching his bleeding stomach, veins popping on his forehead, reaching out toward the doorway.

When he saw me, a spark of hope lit up his eyes. "Elena..." But I just stood there, watching coldly. I didn't move an inch.

Only when the last spark of hope in Logan's eyes completely died out did I scream at the top of my lungs. "Is anyone there? Help! Murder!" My scream triggered Austin.

He suddenly appeared in my line of sight, grabbing Logan by the ankles and dragging him back into the room. All I could see was a long, thick smear of blood on the carpet.

Then came Chloe's terrified shriek. "Austin, calm down!" "Shut up, you bitch!" A loud slap echoed, and Chloe went silent. Then came a sickening squelch.

The sound of a knife plunging into flesh. I took a deep breath, inhaling the heavy scent of copper, and dialed 911. Just then, Chloe stumbled out of the room, clutching the wall.

She looked up and locked eyes with me. Her eyes widened in horror. It was as if she realized everything in a fraction of a second. She screamed hysterically: "It was you!

You called him here, didn't you?" I frowned, looking utterly insulted. "I only called him to take you home.

He's your husband, isn't he?" I raised my phone. "I've called the police." "Ah!

Elena, save me!" I heard Logan's agonizing cries from inside the room, accompanied by Austin's crazed roars. "You bitch! You dared to sleep with my woman!" "She's mine!

I almost killed a guy for her! Who the hell do you think you are?" "Chloe is mine! She's my woman!" Every roar was accompanied by the sound of stabbing.

Chloe's face turned pale as she shook violently. She cast a terrified glance behind her and collapsed onto the floor. Even so, she scrambled to crawl away.

In just thirty minutes, all the smugness had vanished from her face, replaced by raw terror. The hotel security arrived quickly.

My body trembled as I pointed inside. "He's killing them!" But no one dared to approach Austin, who was covered in blood. The guards could only surround him at a distance.

The knife slipped from his hand, clattering onto the floor. His bloodshot eyes locked onto Chloe.
